A wired digital connection using the Lightning or USB-C port would be
fine. It's a Bluetooth digital connection that's the issue.

Apple always _limits_ your choices by making you purchase them back.
In the case of battery operated devices - you buy them again & again.
Apple smart; customer stupid.

I can't disagree with that. The ones I have on my ears right now have
excellent audio quality but the worst charging case I've ever used
(SkullCandy Push). If the case charged properly AND more than once like
the Apple one does, it would be a better investment. However, even at
the cheap price I paid (about $100 CAD), I'd rather not be forced to buy
a new pair if I can help it.

Under $50 is almost nothing?

My 64GB Samsung Galaxy A32 5G from T-Mobile in May was $28 (tax only).
It has more functionality than any iPhone ever sold at _any_ price!

Apple removes basic functionality so that you're forced to buy it back.
It's what Apple does.

Ah, I wasn't aware that Google was dumb enough to compete directly with
Apple on phones. I knew the *a was cut-off in some way but I thought
that the differences were mostly in size or in camera quality.

See #7 response below from nospam as he becomes increasingly desperate to
defend everything about Apple (to the death!) that he _hates_ is a fact.

1. nospam will first brazenly call every fact he hates "false" or "lies";
2. nospam will then fabricate the existence of the imaginary functionality;
3. nospam then blames everyone else but Apple for the missing capability;
4. nospam fabricates that he told you already even though he couldn't have;
5. nospam says you should write your own apps if you want functionality;
6. nospam accuses you of being too stupid to write all your own iOS apps;
7. nospam finally resorts to an infinity of *ftfy* & ad hominem deflections;

That's true. However, there are instances in a day where fast-charging
is appreciated. Sometimes, an app decides that it wants to drain your
battery and you find yourself with a phone that is at 25% or so after
only two or three hours of mild use. In those cases, wireless charging
is mostly useless to the user because of how slow it is.

I always wondered how they charge but I imagine that the technology is
not dissimilar to the wireless charging some phones use.

Wow, that has nothing to do with what I said.

You could have argued that iPhones don't play OGG Vorbis by default
though. As far as I know, they don't.

RabidHussar <rabid@huss.ar> asked
> Completely off-topic, dude.

The topic, _dude_, is why _only_ the iPhone is crippled in so many ways.
If you don't understand _why_, then you know nothing about consumer OS's.
Specifically, why iPhone/iOS is _different_ from all other consumer systems.

The fundamental _difference_ between iPhone/iOS & the other four consumer
systems is that Apple slowly _reduces_ functionality so you buy it back.

What you're attempting to do is _justify_ those reductions in functionality.
But the _basis_ you use for justification isn't Apple's basis for the loss.

In fact, your _justification_ is what's not on topic.
Since it's not the real reason Apple consistently removed the functionality.

Apple slowly strangles the customer so they have to buy the air to breathe.

nospam is arong of course™. It wasn't that the degraded battery could
not supply sufficient power, it was that the PMICs could not convert the
power from the battery into sufficient power for the processor. Apple
fixed this beginning with the iPhone 8 by adding a third PMIC.

Here's an explanation for non-technical individuals:

_Batteries, Voltage Regulators, and Throttling_

The battery in a phone does not power any of the phone’s components
directly. Multiple voltage regulators and power management devices
regulate the battery’s voltage to power the display, the processor, the
audio amplifier, the cameras, and the various radios (Wi-Fi, cellular,
Bluetooth, NFC). The power management devices also try to maximize
battery life by turning various things on and off, dimming the screen, etc.

Battery issues are especially misunderstood by some. When the iPhone
issue with throttling was first disclosed, there was an effort, by some,
to simply blame the battery for the problem. After all, a battery
replacement solved the throttling problem, at least temporarily. In fact
the battery was not the root cause of the throttling problem.

It’s true that as the battery ages it doesn’t last as long between
charges. But even an older battery can supply sufficient current for the
processor to operate at maximum power if the voltage regulators and
power management components are properly designed. The throttling issue
was not caused by the battery, but a brand new battery did mask the
problem. It’s like adding oil to a vehicle that burns or leaks oil; yes
it allows the engine to continue to function, but it’s not fixing the
root cause of the problem.

The most accurate and succinct explanation of the throttling issue is at
<The most accurate and succinct explanation of the throttling issue is
at Blog - Apple Confirms That It Throttles iPhones With Degraded
Batteries: "the battery isn’t able to maintain a high enough voltage for
the PMIC to reliably be able to use as a source." With the hardware
changes, beginning with the iPhone 8, the PMIC can reliably source power
from a more depleted battery.
A teardown of the iPhone 8 revealed a significant design change,
especially considering that the iPhone 7 was essentially the same as the
iPhone 8 (changing to a glass back to allow for wireless charging, and
upgrading the processor). The significant change is one that most people
don't know about or understand, "Compared to the iPhone 7, there is one
more PMIC component from Dialog in the iPhone 8 Plus,"Apple iPhone 8
Plus Teardown. PMIC stands for "Power Management Integrated Circuit."
These are the components that take the raw output from the single-cell
Li-Ion battery and generate the various voltages needed by the different
components inside the phone.
The root cause of throttling was not the battery, it was the design of
the PMIC circuitry. Apple’s current statement on this is “The effects of
performance management on these newer models may be less noticeable due
to their more advanced hardware and software design.”

Going back to what I wrote, I imagine that the connection might drop or
something but while the connection is maintained, the quality should be
superior to at least an analog wire.

Your justification is not correct since this is about why the Apple
operating system (and hardware) is so very _different_ from all the rest.

What's _different_ ... ... ... ... is this:
Apple slowly strangles the customer so they have to buy back air to breathe.

The same reason she has changed her nym so many times in the past, in a

The list of things the iOS operating system can't do that all other common
consumer operating systems do by default is already astoundingly huge.

There's absolutely no factual doubt whatsoever: The iPhone is crippled.

The question here.... is why.
If we don't understand why, then we don't understand the operating systems.

Sorry, my follow-up got posted before I was finished.

nospam is arong of course™.

--------
_Batteries, Voltage Regulators, and Throttling_

--------

The most accurate and succinct explanation of the throttling issue is at
Blog - Apple Confirms That It Throttles iPhones With Degraded Batteries
<
https://mjtsai.com/blog/2017/12/22/apple-confirms-that-it-throttles-iphones-with-degraded-batteries/>
"the battery isn’t able to maintain a high enough voltage for the PMIC
to reliably be able to use as a source." With the hardware changes,
beginning with the iPhone 8, the PMIC can reliably source power from a
more depleted battery.

Plus Teardown
<https://www.techinsights.com/blog/apple-iphone-8-plus-teardown>. PMIC
stands for "Power Management Integrated Circuit." These are the
components that take the raw output from the single-cell Li-Ion battery
and generate the various voltages needed by the different components
inside the phone.

The root cause of throttling was not the battery, it was the design of
the PMIC circuitry. Apple’s current statement on this is “The effects of
performance management on these newer models may be less noticeable due
to their more advanced hardware and software design.” This is true.
There have been almost no reports of throttling on iPhones beginning
with the iPhone 8. Yes, the code is still in there, but it doesn't kick
in like it did for the older models.

Once again you make shit up and don't even bother to pay the slightest
attention to what is happening.. The phone overheats and loses battery
at an astonishing rate even when no 4K video recording is involved.

Tray again, dipshit.

Goggle released an astonishingly shitty phonew with serious problems. If
thi s were Apple you would have posted 10,000 messages along with your
cohort of shitbag trolls, but no, google releases a phone with 30 minute
battery life and you're making excuses for them.

You're pathetic.

In my case, you're preaching to the choir: I've already settled for
Android and never consider the purchase of an iPhone device for more
than a few minutes before waking up and realizing what the drawbacks
are. However, a lot of the people I know use iPhone and swear by them.
Even when purchasing very capable Android devices, they end up returning
to iOS very quickly either because of habit or because they simply
prefer the hardware and software within.

SMS is a piece of shit liar. You cannot believe a single thing he says.

The iPhone X will run Waze,. or any GPS app for hours with no problem.
GPS apps do use up a lot of battery, so you will not get all day use
when using GPS, which is why you plug them in in the car.

Yep. I much prefer having very small earbuds that having something big
and heavy on my head. My Airpods Pro fit in my jeans watch pocket
perfectly, and that is where they live when I am out of the house.
anything else is much less convenient. The fact that the batteries last
a long time and that they charge up so quickly is just an added bonus,
especially on days where I use them for 8 hours or more.

There is no issue.

it has fans for cooling.

it doesn't overheat, plus recent ipads have a *lot* of processing power.

the latest ipad pros use apple's m1 chip, the same as in a macbook pro
and mac mini (which have fans).

it's possible that it can overheat if it's in a hot vehicle (or even a
hot room without air conditioning) and doing something processor
intensive, but that can happen with many devices.

in normal use, it doesn't overheat, even when playing processor
intensive games or rendering videos.
