He wouldn't last long here. It is up to 3 F at 14:43, the first time it
has been above zero since Thursday. The low for the period was -22 F and
that's real temperature, not wind chill.

I haven't seen the cat since Wednesday. She's semi-feral and won't come in
the house so I hope she found a warm crawl space to hole up. Even the lgbs
haven't been at the bird feeder. No idea where they go.

Go Global Warming! Go! Go!

You do realize that global warming is an average, don't you?

https://parkedphoton.com/anova-and-global-warming/

This article isn't really proof of global warming. An analysis of variance
simply means that increased variability is due to some "new" factor. Hence the
seeming screwiness of weather lately.

<sigh>

There is really no mathmetical proof needed that the Earth is warming. It has
BEEN warming for the last 18,000 years or so. That's when the most recent
glacial period ended.

Therefore, it is clearly not man made. It started 18,000 years ago. How did
this happen when there were no humans at that time? No oil companies. No one
burning coal to produce electricity.

The fact is, the current warming period DID start around 18,000 years ago. It
is also not as warm now as it was 125,000 years ago, during the previous
inter-glacial warming period. We may be contributing to it in a very minor
percentage right now, but the fact is all of this happens without humans.

The point is, this is a natural phenomenon. It has happened multiple times in
the last million years. In fact, the natural state of Earth over the last few
million years IS glaciation. The inter-glacial warming periods are relatively
short - lasting around 20,000 years - and around 125,000 years apart.

So basically there are 125,000 years of cold, glaciers and sea levels 400 feet
lower than today. Then it warms up for 20,000 years, glaciers melt and sea
levels rise to what we see now. Sea levels can be (and have been) higher in
past inter-glacial warming periods.

Given that the current warming period started about 18,000 years ago and the
average warming period lasts around 20,000 years, we have around 2000 years or
so before glaciers return for another 125,000 year "ice age".

All of this info is in the geologic record. These are accepted facts, which
can be easily researched. But these facts are conveniently unknown/ignored by
the "climate crisis" brigade.

The true "denial" in global warming is denying that it is a natural
phenomenon. It is NOT man made. Anyone talking about "man made climate change"
is either ignorant of the facts or is deliberately lying to suit a political
agenda.

Yes, and I also know it comes and goes. Greenland may have even been green
during the optima. I live on the bottom of a 1200' deep lake. Luckily it
blew out an ice dam about 13,000 years ago and remodeled eastern
Washington.

Based on previous environmental fiascoes I believe humans will fuck up
completely with all the best of intentions.

It's 18F here already, just outside Apelanta. Going down to 14F.

Our kitty is in right now, but he'll probably go out for a while. He

The excessive warming, increased frequency of extreme weather events and
incredibly fast melting of glaciers we're experiencing now and in the
near future ARE man-made (or at least man-exacerbated). 100%.

This is why I like you, despite your faults with racism and bias
against Linux. You are not some follower of Trump or any ridiculous

They call it "global warming" in the summer and "climate change" in the
winter. Wonder why?

The graph showing the upward trend is a hockey-stick; it tilts upward in recent
decades. The point is that we are accelerating warming at a rate never seen
before. Species don't have time to adapt. Cultures, especially those in the
margins, don't have the time, resources, or will to adapt. It's the "short
term" effects that matter.

Your long list of rejoinders are irrelevant and your conclusion is wrong.
Obviously long-term data is irrelevant to near-term data.

At least you didn't try to say that global warming is disproved by rich people
still moving to homes on the seacoast :-D

Either way, there's nothing that "the west" can do about it, with
China and India building coal-burning plants as fast as they are able.

Why the fsck should we cripple our power grid, and take on the costs?

So China has a weak opponent, when they decide to take back Taiwan?

Good luck getting your chips (and everything that uses them) then,
folks! Our standard of living will come crashing down, and for what
gain?

One has to wonder whether the coming ice age will erase all of man's
scientific progress from the face of the Earth and return all survivors
to the Stone Age or if we will manage quite well through it.

According the the genetics Just So stories, my ancestors chased the
glaciers north, hunting and gathering. We were quite happy before the damn
farmers showed up. We will survive!

Humans will probably survive, but civilization? It has been note that we’ve already
extracted the minerals & fossil fuels that are accessible by low technology.. As such,
there’s the paradox that if civilization collapses, we’ll lack the tools to obtain the
resources to be able to rebuild back to where we are today. This may actually be a
solution to the “why are we alone in the galaxy?” question.

I'm reluctant to believe that the people whose only skill seems to be to
record their stupid faces making idiotic comments on TikTok will manage
to even get out of their homes if an ice age happens. Once they begin to
starve, they are likely to become someone else's sex slave if they look
good enough though.
