Nobody sensible denies the existence of covid. It's a mild illness of
the lungs, as is flu and common cold. Combined with overweightness and
other problems, it can, and has, killed. The vaccine was rushed out as a
stopgap measure.

I was in hospital around the time in hit the headlines, and possibly got
it. Hospitals are full of sick people, naturally, and at that time, the
local hospitals also had lots of bedblockers, people not able to manage
at home, or had been sent to `retirement homes' and sent back, as
those places will not take contrary people. I had one old lady that used
to come to the end of the bed and scream at me, I dunno about what.

She used to do the same with the doctors, which was unwise. A lot of
those sort of people were cleared out to `retirement homes' when the
disease was recognized.

Children should be allowed play outside. Sure, they get sick, but they
recover and develop resistance, in a natural way. Lockdowns and masks
are stupid. Children need to see their Mother's smile, it gives them
confidence that will last them for life. I knew men that thought they
were tough, yet at the last, called for their Mothers.

I notice that you did not mention chickens in your list. Chickens are
subject to a herpes infection called Marek's disease. Since 1970 it has
been preventible by a vaccine, however the vaccine does not produce
sterilizing immunity, that is, even vaccinated birds may contract and
spread the disease. The result has been that Marek's disesase has
become much more virulent in unvaccinated birds. This may be a win for
vaccine producers, but it's not clear that it has been an improvement
for chicken farmers.

Successful human vaccines, such as smallpox, diptheria, pertussis, &c
almost always produce sterilizing immunity, and thus prevent the
evolution of vaccine-adapted viruses. None of the covid vaccines are in
this class, and it remains to be seen whether the covid vaccination
drives were a deal with the devil. In any event the attempts to force
young and healthy adults to get the shots were and are both unethical
and ill-advised. The current US drive to inject babes in arms is simply
evil.

All agreed, i did not mention chickens, as I would go on and on. One of
the cruelist things I see at the moment is chicken farms. They make
wonderful pets, and if allowed to peck around a garden, produce
wonderful eggs.

That's... _close_ to the truth. Unless the mainstream news media has been
engaging in a systematic campain to distort the truth, however, it is not
quite accurate.

Absent previous vaccinations against COVID-19, it has a significant chance
of causing serious, long-lasting disabilities even in young and healthy people.
Loss of the sense of smell, difficulty breathing, difficulty thinking and
concentrating.

It also has a significant chance of killing even young and healthy people.

Combined with overweight or other problems, it is likely to produce serious
symptoms that will require a period of hospitalization, involving being connected
to a ventilator. And this can happen to the young and healthy as well.

Some places, like Italy, at least for a time, _failed_ to avoid what we narrowly
did avoid, thanks to masking, lockdowns, and the vaccine: hospitals so overloaded
that people who needed treatment with a ventilator couldn't get it, leading to
COVID-19 killing a significantly greater proportion of those who were infected.

Even here, our hospitals were so overloaded that because discretionary
surgeries had to be put off, many people ended up dying from cancer who
could have been saved had the pandemic not happened, so that they would
have received treatment in time.

And it's not over yet. Because the disease has been allowed to spread more than
it would have with more conscientious observance of public health measures,
new variants have emerged which can evade the vaccines that are currently
available. By this fall, we could easily be in a situation similar to that of the
earlier part of the pandemic.

And things could be _very_ bad this time, specifically because right-wing
political elements have created an organized opposition to public-health
measures to deal with the ongoing pandemic. By the time they're dramatically
proven wrong by events, it will be... not "too late", since the extinction of
the human race isn't at issue, but later than it should have been - and indeed
too late to have prevented a great many needless deaths.

I wish that Russia's nuclear weapons could all disapear, so that Putin could be
punished severely enough... that until the end of time, no other person would
start a war of aggression - all future Hitlers and Mussolinis would remember what
Putin suffered, and be stopped from their evil plans by sheer terror of their
likely eventual fate.

Unfortunately, though, one can't really prevent all crime at no cost to the innocent
through deterrence. Many criminals believe they won't get caught. Many criminals
are impulsive or irrational or in the grip of uncontrolled emotion.

So my view is that the world should be made a safe place for the ordinary people
who work hard to make a good life for themselves, and those who try to make
trouble - those who try to live by stealing from others - are to be prevented from
getting in the way of that, as effectively as possible. And at as little expense to
the innocent as possible.

Although current vaccines do not perfectly prevent transmission,
they do reduce it.
It is true that younger children are less likely to develop serious
symptoms from COVID-19 infection. But they may transmit it to
their parents.
And if the chance of transmission is cut in half from one person to
the next, then it's cut to 1/8th from one person to another and another
and another. This is why it's so important to get nearly everyone
vaccinated, because then even a vaccine that has limited effectiveness
in reducing transmission can still eliminate the disease completely.

How does being vegetarian connect with being exploited by nutters ?
For the most part (ignoring the expensive, highly processed, imitation meat
products) a vegetarian diet is cheaper and less subject to marketing than
meat. It would be easier (if rather silly) to make a case that meat eaters
are being exploited by dangerous nutters who like killing animals.

Truth is some people like eating meat, some don't and some have
moral objections to it. Each to their own, it's a personal matter IMHO.

My point was that being able to read is really opening up your mind to
opinions that one would never think of if one could not read. I am
trying to work that out myself. Look at the libraries full of books
about things that nobody worries about nowadays, such as how many angels
can fit on the top of a needle?

The Bible, for instance, is full of imaginary history. after the rosetta
stone was tanslated, we really know the nobody in ancient times ever
heard of King david or king Solomon. We do know that Sheba (Saba)
existed. The Germans had an Idea that god had chosen them as a super
race, all of which was built out of the resemblence between Hindi and
Welsh, which nobody seems to understand.

On the other hand, if the deaths are largely among the unvaccinated, well,
they made their choice.

I don’t believe we should let Putin scare us with nukes, because he knows
things would be a lot worse for him than for us. I think we still have the
“no first use” doctrine, and he knows it, but, given the wonderful
performance of his army to date, we wouldn’t need them anyhow.

This war is turning into a disaster for the world, not only the horrendous
death rate in Ukraine, but fuel and food shortages, all caused by the
nut-job in the Kremlin. My feeling is that we should do whatever we have to
do to end it NOW, and send Putin’s cannon fodder back to Russia with their
tails between their legs before winter.

Let's hope the same happens for Trump. However, with 70 million
