Your needs and use far outweigh mine, I am retired and just do the
regular mundane stuff as I don't collect videos or movies I don't need a
lot of disk storage.

I don't know about that but I think I might have some excess capacity
when I retire, whenever that is.

I thank the folks who kindly and good heartedly contributed to the details
in this thread because now I have two calculators easily accessed!

This instantly brings up the default Windows vanilla calculator:
Win+R > calc

This now brings up the suggested Moffsoft rainbow calculator... :)
Win+R > fcalc

Normally I don't type "Win+R" because the Run box is an icon in my taskbar.

The setup for these commands is trivial using the "AppPaths" registry key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths

Dunno. I have been retired for 26 years and I have over a terabyte of
data spinning and more on removable media

I'll have 66TB on my desktop PC and a measly 36TB on my server. I'd
gladly trade in all of these spinning drives for a pair of 100TB SSDs,
m.2 of course, but we're not there yet.

I've been retired for 29 years and I have only .5TB of data (not
spinning; NvME).

102TB! You're well on your way to being the first person with a

I finally got a reply about half an hour ago, Everything is fine now.
I'm registered.

Jeff Moffett apologized for taking so long. He had Covid.

Just curious. Do you know? Is Moffsoft a one-man company?

It seems like for the sort of computing most people do, an Excel
spreadsheet would work pretty well. For example, enter a column of
numbers and simply sum them. Since you can see all of the numbers, the
double checking
is built in, and you can even save a copy if you'd like to edit it
later. I've got one for my "household expenses", not only do I have
totals by month and year (which are really only useful for the sake of
planning and comparison) but I have phone numbers, model numbers,
contractor names and notes, etc. It's handy when you need parts for
this or that. I do the same thing for each car too, but just with a
pencil and a lined paper booklet like you can get at a discount store.
I don't think I've ever computed a sum for my car expenses, but it's
nice to be able to see how many months and/or miles you have on your
car's air filter, or to estimate your MPG. YMMV! : )

I'm not sure what made me look, TV or email article, but I have a 6 yr old car. I was told 'change the air filter every
5 yrs', so I bought one, then changed it. Was I glad, it was filthy, dark gray. Whew!

And my wife spread sheets tons of things. As were baby boomers, especially medical items, meds, doc visits etc.

The rule of thumb I heard was every year or 12,000, but I use my
(second) car so little I mostly use the mileage as a guide.
When I changed my wife's "cabin air filter", she noticed a dramatic
improvement in her A/C performance. For whatever reason, I think that
was the "priciest" air filter I ever bought (about triple the price of a
regular one, maybe because it was a special order). You might wish to
check whether your car has a cabin air filter too.

Sorry, didn't state the fact that it WAS the cabin air filter I changed. I didn't notice better air, but it has to help!

Yes, the difference in the amount of air coming out of the vent was very
noticeable.

Yes, you can do that, but as far as I'm concerned using a calculator
program, whether Moffsoft or any other one, is much easier than
building a spreadsheet, whether Excel or any other spreadsheet
program.

Yes, again, you can do that with a spreadsheet. But I have all that
kind of information in Quicken, which is a much better and easier way
to do it, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm reminded of a vice president in a company I used to work for who
used Lotus 123 to do word processing. Yes. it worked for him, but it
was clearly a very poor choice of software.

My car keeps track of my MPG automatically. I don't have to do
anything.

My mileage varies a lot. <G>

I can double click on my Excel shortcut, enter 10 numbers in a column,
and sum them in about the time it would take you to use your
calculator--but more importantly, I could double-check the sum
with a glance.

As far as Quicken, I would declare that I am an "Intuit avoider", except
I just checked and Intuit divested them in 2016. : )

Writing a "calculator program" is a pretty standard programming problem
for computer science majors. It's direct and effective for teaching how
to use and construct a "GUI" (graphical user interface). I have little
doubt that the Moffsoft version is much more sophisticated.

back in ought five, Quicken made "improvements" to the basic
program, which was so effective, I found nothing better.
Which is what I used for the next several years - nothing. Not
Quicken, nothing.

The bummer is realizing that all my financial records from those
years I did use Quicken, were no longer available to me. _Almost_
enough to make me want to go back to pen and paper....
