As I have been looking for a better calculator than Windows offering for
a long time,Someone in these 3 newsgroups in the last couple weeks
mentioned 'Moffsoft calculator" I can't find that post but Thanks to
whoever mentioned it.

I downloaded both the Freeware and paid versions and studied the free
version and decided it looked real good \, so I installed the payware
version and worked with it for a couple hours and was thrilled to see
that it was what I really wanted including a printable tape

http://www.moffsoft.com/

So I immediately sent in the funds and purchased it, well worth the
price and then some.

Probably "more" than what you really want, but here are two more
"computational" resources for your consideration.

Thanks Bill, both nice programs but more than I can use, MoffSoft
Calculator 2 is exactly what I was looking for.

Another possibility is the TI 84 graphing emulator & runs as a
"TI Smartview CE 84" or "Wabbitemu.exe" is a Z80 emulator to
run the TI-84 plus that is available & also there is a youtube
to show what to get/install the TI-84 plus on windows.

Haven't seen a financial version yet.

I use a calculator very seldom, but considering the price of the free
version and your recommendation, I just downloaded and installed it.

I'll see how I like it the next time I need to use a calculator (if I
remember that I have it <G>).

I just added it to the Directory Opus Toolbar, called it Calc, and
removed the Microsoft Calc from there. So now that's the one I'll
always get, and won't have to try to remember it.

Thanks for the thread on this new "free calc" option for Windows.
<http://www.moffsoft.com/>
<http://www.moffsoft.com/downloads.htm>
<http://www.moffsoft.com/download/MoffFreeCalcSetup.exe>
Name: MoffFreeCalcSetup.exe
Size: 782433 bytes (764 KiB)
SHA256: C9BCB825ADCEC93DAFD994A6ADA429AC386B0BF807C3F9509161CD17658C8DD5
TARGET = C:\app\editor\calc\fcalc\MoffFreeCalc.exe

Just in case people aren't aware of the RUN box shortcuts, if you type
"calc" into the RUN box, it brings up the default Windows calculator.
Win+R > Run (normally the RUN box is an icon in your taskbar)

If you want to point to a _different_ calculator, that's trivial.

For example, if you want a FreeCalc command called, oh, say, fcalc
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths]
fcalc.exe = C:\app\editor\calc\fcalc\MoffFreeCalc.exe

Voila! Now if you type "calc", you get the Microsoft Calculator, and if you
type "fcalc" instead, you get the free calc calculate downloaded above.

Doctored in what way? What did you change?

I got the free version, not Calculator 2.

Can you tell me what there is about Calculator 2 that you like enough
to make it worth buying? If it's were $5-$10, I'd probably buy it
without thinking about it, but before I spend the $20, I'd like to be
sure its extra features are valuable to me.

I don't care much about the colors, but please tell me about the
toolbar icons, and what they do and what their value is.

Ignore that question. I just went to their web site and downloaded
Calculator 2 trial version. I liked the Financial Functions, Unit
Conversions, and Date/Time Calculator, so I decided to buy it.

I bought it through PayPal, which might have been a mistake, since I
didn't get a registration code to enter, and I can't find out how to
get it on their web site.

I just sent an e-mail message to support asking how to get it, but I
don't know long it will take to get an answer. Can you help?

I use a calculator quite a lot, I do lots of conversions such as
temperature, length , weight, Metric to imperial and visa versa, so
these features are very important to me.

Financial functions
Unit conversions, all types
Date and time calculations
Product pricing
Saving any results to file
Printable tape of transactions to hardcopy

and a few other features. which make so versatile..

Color IS important to me, due to poor vision I find having various
colors for functions and buttons it so much easier for me to use.

Yes, I made the same mistake using PayPal and got no code so I went to
Moffoft support and sent an email to

sales@moffsoft.com and included my PayPal transaction number and
told them I did not receive a code.

I got an email back in about 36 hours with my registered name and code.

This is the second time PayPal has screwed me up.

I had sent my message to support@moffsoft.com It probably doesn't make
any difference, but since sales@moffsoft.com worked for you, I just
sent them a copy too.

Very glad to hear that. I guess I just need to be patient (patience
was never one of my strong points) and wait for a reply from one of
the two addresses.

>This is the second time PayPal has screwed me up.

I don't think it's really PayPal screwing up. It's Moffsoft not making
it work properly with PayPal, and telling their customers that they
can use PayPal when they shouldn't. But as long as it gets fixed
relatively quickly, it doesn't matter very much.

I suppose it's possible that even if we hadn't written to Moffsoft, we
would have gotten the registration info from them in a day or two.
Maybe it just takes a little while for PayPal to send the payment info
to them, so they can then send the registration info to their
customer. But if that's case, it should say that on the Moffsoft web
site.

Or maybe I didn't get an immediate e-mail message with the
registration info from Moffsoft because today is Sunday, and I'll get
it tomorrow.

No comment on the calculator, but looking at your desktop and I love
seeing that somebody has almost as many drives as me. I mean, why
limit yourself to just C:\ when there are so many letters in the
alphabet? ;-)

Yes, each drive has one specific purpose and it makes it so easy to find
anything because I know where thy are, I rarely use file explorer.

>Yes, each drive has one specific purpose ...

If you're talking about physical drives, OK, that's the way they are.
But if you're talking about multiple partitions, I think it's a bad
choice for almost everyone. What frequently happens when people
organize with partitions instead of folders is that they miscalculate
how much room they need on each such partition, and then when they run
out of room on the partition where a file logically belongs, while
still having lots of space left on another one, they simply store the
file in the "wrong" partition. Paradoxically, therefore, that kind of
partition structure results in less organization rather than more..

> ...and it makes it so easy to find
>anything because I know where thy are,

I also know where everything is. If it's part of Windows or an
installed programs, it's on C:. If it's data, it's on D. C and D are
on separate drives because it makes it a little easier to just backup
everything on D:.

If I can't remember where something is, I use Search Everything, which
finds it almost instantly.

I should mention that I also have two other installed physical drives,
D: and E:. There are both used for backup. As I've said here many
times, I think backup should not be to an internal drive, but they
are not my primary backups. They are simply extra copies of backup and
are installed and used for backup, simply because there were laying
around and I had no other use for them.

>I rarely use file explorer.

I never use file explorer. I use Directory Opus, which I think is much
better.

I know this isn't the calculator you are using (or hope not) but it's just ironic this turned up on my email today.

Instead of a bunch of individual drives (volumes), each with its own
letter, I pool my drives and use a single letter. At the moment, I'm
doing an upgrade that will increase the size of my drive pool from 36TB
to 66TB, all under a single volume known as D:.
