Thanks for that. I finally found it. I think I also found a reason why
I haven't been able to configure folder numbers to behave the way I
prefer. I tried the "repair folder" option within the properties
section of the folder and it wiped out all those old ghost numbers that
never seemed to change. I think I've got things set now so I can tell
if there are new messages without having to manually "get messages".
The number count stays at zero when I have the filter set to view
"unread messages" and I don't have any. If I do, there's a number visible.

Frequently heard lament, which I share: This program is a great toy for
code writers and others who enjoy tinkering under the hood of programs.
I want a free, safe program geared towards the end user. I'd never be
able to keep my food cold in a fridge if I had to configure the
compressor, thermostats, refrigerant pressure, timers, etc. And it seems
every time I get TB at least most of the way I want to use it, a new
version is issued that requires restarting the process again. I continue
to install the updates because I value the security fixes and updates.
If it weren't for that, I'd stay with an older version.

Huh? I've never seen any numbers next to my e-mail folders. I'm happy
about that. I'm glad that I don't. Never wanted to. But why have a
feature for some folders in the folder pane but not others?

I see that now. Why didn't someone say that earlier? This program
reminds me of a high security door on a walk-in safe. Twelve different
dials, each with 100 numbers, and combinations of between 2 and 4
rotations, some clockwise and some counter-clockwise. You've got to get
everything precisely correct or the door won't open. No fun for the
person who's not a software engineer; I'm just trying to get by as an
end user.

Sorry, I must have missed that. The thread has become somewhat long
(and I admit, I've contributed to that fact.)

Mmnnn! But that's the point of having a NG like this.
In this instance, it's a place where particularly folks who are not
software engineers or computerate can ask pertinent questions and
hopefully get some useful advice, as was my case when I originally asked
the Numeric question.

I should have said it as part of an early posting to this thread but
I'll say it now. I sincerely appreciate the fact that no one threw dirt
in my face or trolled me when I broadcast my frustrations at not being
able to find or follow the suggestions. Quite a refreshing change from
what goes on in some other news groups. Thanks to all who replied to my
posts in this thread.
