Looks like account setup, right? If you use an existing profile that
won't happen.

The same thing happens, if you install a traditional Thunderbird like this

http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/115.4.2/win64/en-US/Thunderbird%20Setup%20115.4.2.exe

and have a normal profile, then you go to the MicrosoftStore
and select Thunderbird from there and it installs an MSIX version.
Based on how that one launches, it might be a MetroApp but not sure.

Now you have two copies of Thunderbird on your C: drive.

The MSIX version will then ask for details, as the profile it
uses is separate from the other (traditional) Thunderbird.

*******

Traditionally on Thunderbird, like as a Windows user, you might do this.

cmd.exe # Start a command prompt Window

cd /d C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird # Where ever Thunderbird is this week.
thunderbird.exe -p # Start the ("regular") Thunderbird.exe Profile Manager dialog

That is how you could "select" a particular profile,
instead of the one the program installer created
(which is empty at the moment of first installation perhaps).

It's unclear, for some of the other Windows delivery methods,
ones which do not support parameter passing, exactly how
you access the Profile Manager :-) If you enable the Menu Bar,
you could try Import and ask it to Import from Thunderbird.

I don't even feel confident enough about the situation, to
even summarize what ways executable content can be delivered
on Windows any more. When I went to the Microsoft Store
and installed Thunderbird from there, I was expecting a
Metro App, but the MSIX is a universal app ??? I'm not
really sure what that is. An MSIX is a new flavor of .msi
but other than that, the content of the .msi could be
just about anything. That one might install on Windows 7
(and if it is a Universal App, it might not appear as a
MetroApp in that case).

Suffice to say, if you test Nightly versions, regular versions,
MSIX versions, Betterbird versions, you'll be seeing a separate
empty profile and the "set up account prompt" quite often. Having
separate profiles for all these things, is good, and prevents
compatibility.ini issues that the user did not intend. It's then
up to the user to select the profile they want, and live with the
consequences of multiple tools meddling in the same profile folder.
(if you, say, used Profile Manager in all of them, to select
the same profile for their usage -- only a Level 39 wizard
would get away with that.)

When I tested on the other machine, I think I used Import instead,
to populate the new profile while testing. And I did it this way,
because I still don't know the taxonomy of what I installed.
Enable the Menu bar, and try out the Import from there.

I always turn the Menu bar on, on these things. As part
of testing for differential behavior (some MetroApp applications
remove decorations like that, as part of their "acres of white space"
campaign).

I'll try my best.
If you put an email in the outbox for sending later, it doesn't show in
the message count, as do those in eg inbox and Newsgroups.
I can only get it to show by enabling message count for all boxes, when
it shows just faintly and not strongly.
What is a Bugzilla ticket?

That's because the count for each folder (including outbox) measures
"unread" messages, not "unsent" messages ... if you're going to create a
bug you should request that the outbox is a special case where the
actual number of messages should be the count.

It seems a trivial complaint, but I have a very idiosyncratic way of
posting both personal and Newsgroup messages. I always "send later";
they go into Outbox, and there I review them to make sure URLs work etc;
then I send.
And sometimes I forget to send before logging out; and get a reminder
only at the next login. That problem used to be avoided when they were
shown in stronger text like "unsents".

BTW, there's another improvement possible here; reminder to send unsents
before logging out.
