We see how M$ is endlessly building, the OS that is always at the
bleeding edge but with so many people using an older version, whereas
with Linux you have a straightforward schedule of upgrades where it
remains current.

Bad logic. As long as Linux' market share continues to increase, it
will eventually win.

Seriously, who knows what things will look like in 100 years? I doubt
that "desktop Windows" will still be a big thing.

MS literally has to force W10 users to upgrade because of how
disliked W11 is.

Personally I consider portable "laptop" computers effectively the same
as "desktop" computers. So not anything near "over".

I think they'll always be the need for "desktop workstations", even if
the actual brains of them may be portable, 99% of the time.

Which is the ONLY reason Linux was invented, and is the ONLY reason any

Unix does anyway. GuhNoo just cadged everything they could from Unix,
then gave it away. And GuhNoo got extremely lucky Torvalds had a
kernel, else we never would've heard of Linux.

But overall, it's definitely a good thing to have an open source, free
of cost OS as an alternative to Win and Mac.

Windows 3.x? ROFL! If you'd said Windows 2000, maybe. But in truth
Microsoft has abandoned what Windows used to be. The support of
Win10, 11 or 12 is as advertised basically, in fact I'd have gotten 13
solid years of M$ support on this machine between the three versions,
but good luck with upgrades beyond a certain point, sticking one with
