An entire generation will have to be extinct. My wife was a Beatles fan
and went to the '65 concert at Shea Stadium. I thought it was a
teenybopper thing. Of course I never told her; I'm not completely stupid.

In Tehran, Beatles didn't kick in until their first movie came out.
That's when the craze began. It led to bulk of people begin listening to
the American channel on Radio, making them familiar with other British
rock groups. And yes, even then, in Tehran, the two gangs began to form,
one following Beatles, the other following Stones. Even in teen
magazines we could see the two wearing their dresses according to which
one they followed :) Bringing all sorts of reasons for their choices,
and some of them even beginning forming their own bands!

My wife attempted to do the taxes one year. A diabetic, she had
significant medical expenses but put the entire total on the line rather
than the very small percentage that was allowed.

My tax situation is quite simple but I've sometimes missed deductions.
It's embarrassing when the IRS sends an unexpected refund with a letter
that basically asks if you know what you're doing.

Then there was the year when I didn't work so my total was below the
threshold and I didn't file. That letter said something like 'Forget
something?' I asked them if I should file even though I didn't have to and
they said it was best to do so.

First, all the big companies have a large Excel base because people
know Excel and use it when they don't know other ways.

Second, as the companies need to work with other companies, they need
the files to be compatible, and if they try to go a little bit further
than the basics, the compatibility start to be difficult with different
tools.

Third, the issues with Excel are not related with the fact that they are
produced by Microsoft, so any non-Microsoft spreadsheet has the same
issues as Excel. It can be useful to have something simple fast, but as
it becomes to have more functionalities starts to be more broadly shared,
the issues arise and can't be overthrown.
