I'm sure someone has already done this, but I went ahead and created a tutorial to get started with Usenet using Thunderbird:

I'm posting here so just a few see it right now and can offer critique if need be, before I add links to it on sites.

I also have made a .pdf copy for any server admins who might wish to add it to their sites easily.

Please let me know of any errors or problems. I'll probably just go live with it soon, but putting it out there for a bit first.

Seems to cover the basics, some might think the text in the screenshots

Thank you for the feedback. I may update the screenshots at some point as I did let the screenshot window drift a bit to the left in some of them. If I do that, I'll see what I can do about improving readability. Maybe I will make each image a link to the image. The full size is reasonably large.

I was using Spectacle, which works fine, but I somehow moved the window and didn't check on the next pic.

I was grabbing only a portion of the window, I didn't want too much info shown in the pics, so I cropped out the menu, etc. Does Screenshooter make that any easier than Spectacle?

Screenshooter is like spectacle without the preview. It is a bit simpler. It is the only screenshot app I use any more. I don't need annotation, export to app and the other things spectacle does.
