This is regarding Total Pixel Matrix Columns (0048,0006), Total Pixel Matrix Rows (0048,0007) tags w.r.t VL Whole Slide Microscopy Image IOD.

To make this question clear, will explain with a scenario.

We have an image with say,

(0028, 0010) Columns : 512
(0028, 0011) Rows : 512
(0048, 0006) Total Pixel Matrix Columns : 1536
(0048, 0007) Total Pixel Matrix Rows : 2688

Should the Total Pixel Matrix Columns and Total Pixel Matrix Rows be exact multiple of 512 ? Because, in real scenarios, the acquired image tiles/frames size are not guaranteed to be at exact multiple of 512. Especially, the end tiles (rows or columns) can be less than the tile size.

In the above example, the tiles at the last rows are less than 512.

The DICOM standard does not explain this scenario.
Ref: C.8.12.14.1.1 Total Pixel Matrix Columns, Rows, Focal Planes

We need this clarification so as to handle the above scenario. Also, the images are successfully opened in SLIM, but the same images in Orthanc viewer gives error/warning.

Logs from Orthanc :
E1004 09:56:13.767870 PluginsManager.cpp:153] Frame 1 with unexpected tile location (448,0) in instance: f67df1b4-d69d7976-f862b130-a6159a30-19b06fbf

Hi Anil

No, there is no requirement that the total be an exact multiple of the individual tile size, therefore it is permitted, and in my experience, they usually aren't.

A receiver (viewer or analysis tool) should take care to mask the area outside (beyond) the total pixel matrix in the tiles of the last column and the last row prn, since the "unused" pixels are not necessarily black or white and may be something confusing and undesirable.
