Hi,

I'm using dcmtk toolikit 3.6.7 built against libiconv. So
ISO 2022 IR 13\ISO 2022 IR 87 shall be supported by dcmtk.
However, and according to dcmtk source, it seems that dcmtk doesn't support extended character set (here ISO 2022 IR 87) as destination encoding.

// normalize the given string (original VR is "CS" with VM "1-n", but we only support VM "1")

Are you planing to provide this really nice feature in a close future?

Regards

this limitation is clearly documented in the DcmSpecificCharacterSet [1] class:

* @note Please note that a current limitation is that only a single value is
* allowed for the destination character set (i.e. no code extensions). Of
* course, for the source character set, also multiple values are supported.

There are no plans to implement this in the near future. A blog posting [2] describes "how new features are added to the DCMTK". Here [3,4] is some more background information on the character set support in the DCMTK.

[4] https://blog.jriesmeier.com/2013/04/character-sets-revisited/

By the way, the latest development version of the DCMTK [5] comes with a built-in character set conversion library (oficonv) that is based on work of the Citrus project. This enhancement will also be part of the upcoming DCMTK 3.6.8.
