Hi All,
a simple question (I guess):
is this a valid study instance UID?
114368.13103.492848076.314522562.2027574178.166830968

I'm asking because we have an application generating SIUID in such a format, therefore images on PACS have SIUD in that format, but a post-processing sw cannot handle the images and the vendor says it's caused by the SIUID format that, they state, is violating the DICOM standard for UIDs

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

First, you need to to obtain an organization root.
Second, every component (number between the dots) should start with [1-9] (no leading 0's) and should be no more then 8 digits long.
Third, the length of the UID (numbers and dots) should be no more then 64 characters long.

Components can also be exactly equal to zero, as in 1.2.840.10008.15.0.101.2

can a UUID Derived UID be used as Study Instance UID?

You can look in appendix B on how UIDs should look like, including a UUID based one.

I would be interested to know why the downstream application is rejecting images based on syntax errors in the uid, as it doesn't impact any clinical workflows as such, assuming, as for all generation schemes, the values are unique and don't violate UI length restriction.
This is how we do it in our VNA and I assume most downstream systems do.
