I found this video very informative!

<https://youtu.be/Zd5OThnCZ7w>

It is about "Reading Characters from file and possible bug fix for
portability". It is a 20 minutes video but worth it for people who are
new to C Programming Language.

Oh dear. A bit tedious... and then wrong.

If I were new to C this would set me back. Bad explanation, dad code
and bad advice. Truly shocking. Who are these people who post things
like this? How can a beginner avoid being led astray? I am having a
sad!

As a parent who writes C I have to ask - is "dad code" some kind of
insult or a typing error?

Ha! Thanks. Typo: bad code. But I like the idea of dad code...

My dad taught himself Basic on a ZX80/81 someone had lent him, and wrote a program to keep score
when we played Estimation Whist. Well, it actually worked, so plus one for the dads! :) But... he
didn't know what gosub and func were for, so it was just one long stream of code from start to
finish, and it only worked if four people were playing. (Luckily we always played with 4 people so
that was alright.) The biggest problem was he couldn't save the program, so we had to wait 20
minutes each time we wanted to play while he typed it in. Well, that's Dad code for you!

Mike.
