A Fan Remakes The Simpsons: Hit and Run Using Unreal Engine 5
The Simpsons: Hit and Run, a beloved game from 2003 that lets you explore Springfield and cause chaos as your favorite characters, has been given a modern makeover by a fan using Unreal Engine 5. The fan, who goes by the name Reubs on YouTube, spent a week recreating the game with improved graphics, animations, textures, and ray tracing. He even added a first-person mode for a more immersive experience.

Reubs uploaded a trailer of his remake on his channel, showing off his impressive work and comparing it to the original game. He also explained how he used various tools and assets to rebuild the game, such as ripping the audio from the original game, using pre-made models for characters and vehicles, and using Unreal Engine's landscape tool to create Springfield. He said he wanted to make the remake as a tribute to one of his favorite games and to show what it could look like with modern technology.

Unfortunately, Reubs had to remove the download link for his demo after he received a copyright notice. He said he was not planning to continue working on the remake anyway, as it was just a fun project for him. He also said he hoped that his remake would inspire an official remaster or sequel of The Simpsons: Hit and Run, which many fans have been asking for over the years.

The Simpsons: Hit and Run was originally released for PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube in 2003. It was developed by Radical Entertainment and published by Vivendi Universal Games. It was a parody of Grand Theft Auto, featuring an open-world environment where you could play as Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, or Apu and complete missions, races, or mini-games. It also featured voice acting from the original cast of The Simpsons and a humorous story written by the show's writers.

The game received positive reviews from critics and fans alike, who praised its gameplay, humor, and faithful recreation of The Simpsons universe. It sold over 3 million copies worldwide and became one of the best-selling games of 2003. However, a sequel was never made due to EA acquiring the rights to The Simpsons games in 2005.

While there is no official word on whether The Simpsons: Hit and Run will ever get a remake or a sequel, fans can still enjoy Reubs' trailer and hope that one day they will be able to revisit Springfield in all its glory.

Reubs is not the only fan who has attempted to remake The Simpsons: Hit and Run using Unreal Engine. Another fan, El Gato Del Tejado, has been working on a remaster mod for the game since 2020, which includes hand-drawing all the cutscenes in the classic Simpsons style. El Gato Del Tejado has uploaded several videos on YouTube showing their progress and challenges, such as fixing character models, updating textures, and recreating Springfield. They have also opened a Patreon to support their project.

Other fans have also used different platforms to recreate The Simpsons: Hit and Run. One fan used Dreams, a game creation tool for PlayStation 4 and 5, to make a bizarre version of the game that features distorted characters, glitchy physics, and creepy music. Another fan used Roblox, an online game platform and game creation system, to make a faithful recreation of the game that can be played online with other players.

The Simpsons: Hit and Run has a loyal fan base that still enjoys playing the game and making mods for it. Some of these mods include adding new characters, vehicles, maps, missions, and features to the game. Some of the most popular mods are Donut Mod, which adds seasons and custom missions; Road Rage Returns, which adds a mode similar to The Simpsons: Road Rage; and Lucas' Simpsons Hit & Run Mod Launcher, which allows users to easily install and manage mods.
