I used to make airplane models. A few years back I found some kits in
storage I had from the early 1990's and finally finished a 1:48 scale B-17D.
I painted it with rattle can Rustoleum (easier than setting up the airbrush fo
r complete coverage, and cut out the bomb bay doors to put in a CR2023
battery cell hooked to bright red LED's in the cockpit, radio room, and waist
gunner's sections to simulate night lighting. When the lights are out, it's
cool to see the barely lit red glow from the windows. I had to spray the
interior with primer in order to block the light from shining through the
body pieces. I picked up an acrylics set to do the details, but I have a
long way to go before doing any high detail or weathering.
