This guy operates a vinyl LP shop, no larger than 75 sqft. and
an inventory at about 1300 pieces now. My own home collection
is about 1200.

https://www.blogto.com/services/resolute-records-toronto/

95%+ of his stock is new vinyl. Dunno how he can move enough
of that to be sustainable.

A quick price comparison between Resolute and Amazon seems to
indicate that prices are on par. Some titles on Resolute are
less $s.

Visiting a physical store is part of a discovery process too.
The shop owner could make informed suggestions for a new
artist.

Sometimes the info on the back of an album can be the final
selling point. Can't do that with online listings.

In the case of Resolute, it offers a vinyl flattening service
as well. Maybe that helps people revive poorly stored LP
collections back to life.

The attraction for NEW vinyl at $40+ prices still surprises me
though.

Hello Nightfox!

Og>> https://www.blogto.com/services/resolute-records-toronto/

N> That link says it's an online business. If that's the
N> case, there may be enough interested customers around the
N> world to give him enough business.

Yes.. originally on-line. But now, he's opened up a storefront
for walk-ins inaddition to maintaining an online channel that
most other storefronts have as well.

I see that Resolute has embraced Shopify to get online. That
starts at $50/mo + they take up to 4% of the credit card
processing fee on a sale.

The vinyl-flattening service is probably a nice add-on to the
biz. Having encountered a few warped LPs myself, I could
certainly see that a $20 session might be worth it for a
scarce/favorite record.

Still, the $40+ prices of NEW vinyl and the market of people
who would expend such money for an LP mystifies me - especially
if the same recording can be had for $20 or less as a CD.

A CD clearly has more dynamic range, no clicks/pops, no need to
flip the media around, and multiple pieces can be queued to
play in any order.

Yeah, I prefer CDs for all those reasons.

Assuming you're talking loonies here...

A shopify plan is $38 CAD ($29 USD) if you pay for an entire year at once. The first 3 months are $1 a month. Credit card rates are 2.9% + $0.30 CAD per transaction, which is honestly cheap compared to other credit card processors. Etsy is 3-4% plus their listing fees.

My wife has a shop on Shopify, and honestly the $30 USD a month we spend on it is worth not having to deal with running and maintaining our own ecommerce site. calculating, buying and printing shipping labels is comparable with other shipping services (such as pirateship or stamps.com), and is incredibly easy.

They raised their prices about a year ago, and I had considered dumping them and running something self-managed, but after looking at processing fees and the work I'd have to put into it, I realized Shopify was still the better deal.

DaiTengu

....Modesty is a vastly overrated virtue.
