I'd not say West as whole. I'd rather limit it to "Hollywood blockbusters". That part of the show business is creatively bankrupt indeed. But there is still Indie market and B class stuff that is often surprising beyond expectations.

I dunno. Most time I come across something modern that is still good, it is
Asian.

There are some outstanding exceptions, but I am not optimistic about our
industry.

Spanish cinema is based on government handouts so Spanish movies are the voice
of the government because the government pays the bills.

If anyone would care to sit through to the end credits of
Canadian films, some bear the distinct acknowledgment to
government agencies that hand out grants for their production.
But I never thought the films represent "the voice of the
government". Some of those films are seem risque in spots.

Can't think of any particular film like that right now.

IMO Canada has made some great movies. They also make terrible TV style series shows. :-)
