I just installed a second SeaMonkey version on my primary machine for
some experiments.

Suggested source for an alternative icon to be placed on my task-bar?
TIA

I believe orange splash icons are the best, I still use them. There were many others once in the iconpacks website:

That is an invalid link. The last time the WaybackMachine archived
http://iconpacks.mozdev.org/index.html was in 2020.

When did "orange splash icons" exist?
TIA

I like it. For my use case it would be nice to have a few versions in a
different primary color.

I've never done any image manipulation. Can you suggest a suitable
program for use with Debian Linux?

TIA

Ah, yes. I sent the link that you could see others in the timeline.
It should be visible before v.2, so somewhere around 2005, I assume.

Here is a direct link of alternatives you could use:
https://web.archive.org/web/20060514044623/http://iconpacks.mozdev.org/index.html

I'll attach the icon set contents.

I looked at Jan, Jun, and Dec.
The set, "orange splash icons", appears to be a set of 1 [a stylized "M"
on an orange background]. Not what I'm looking for.
Thanks.

Find where you installed SeaMonkey to, then go to
\SeaMonkey\chrome\icons\default
You can find all the icons the program uses, which can be changed out
for different ones (I changed all mine to Netscape 7 icons), though not
all will be changed while you use the browser

When you have this picture in our browser,
you can right-clik on it then "save as" good-image.jpg

And finally you can use GIMP to manipulate it then save as an icon.
Attention: GIMP is a very big program - no so easy to use.

OR perhaps another tool:

https://inkscape.org/learn/ tells me how to accomplish my goals.
I tried to install Inkscape using Synaptic but there's a broken link at
the moment. Will try later.
Thank you.

Version in Debian repository is out of date.
Debian doesn't handle the executable inkscape.org distributes.

Those links cover format conversion of graphic image files.
The version of MATE available with Debian is happy using either JPEG
[your file] or PNG.

Your image has only two colors. I wish to chose new foreground and/or
background colors.
