This is more or less a continuation of my other post / topic .
I am now trying to mount a folder on my local computer to my NAS server
using nfs

So I tried this:
sudo mount -t nfs 192.168.0.42:/Media/music /mnt/Media/music

and it returned:
mount.nfs: Protocol not supported.
Is there something missing

What does that mean exactly, and also, have I got the syntax right or in
the right order.

I did try:
sudo mount -t /mnt/Media/music 192.168.0.21/Media/music
but thet returned:
mount.nfs: mount point 192.168.0.21/Media/music doe not exist

It does exist on my NAS serer as I have just checked with df -h

Thanks

You seem have the thing to mount, and its mount point backwards.
mount server:/path/to/share /local/mount/point

Additionally, it may be a typo in your message, but NFS shares use a
colon (":") between server and path.

Yes it was a typo re the colon.

So if I have it backwards, and I want to mount a local share folder to
my NAS, which way is it, the NAS ip:/folder before the /mnt/share, or
the other way round: /mnt/share NAS ip:/folder
Thanks

As in you have a directory on your laptop (whatever) that you want
available on the NAS?

You'd need to share it from the laptop (whatever) and then run the mount
commands on the machine acting as NAS.

Are you familiar with the Protocols Of Zion?
Is this where TB starts to breakdown?

Please don't start a new thread on the same subject.

What does cat /etc/exports show on the NAS?

what does this command (on your client) say?
showmount -e 192.168.0.42
( assuming 192.168.0.42 is your NAS)

* if showmount not installed
apt install nfs-common

You said you wanted to mount "a local directory to your NAS". I read it
as you wanting to get a directory from your local machine available on
your NAS.

Did you mean that you want to mount a share from your NAS locally?
That's just this general syntax:

mount [-t type] [-o opts] nfs-server:/path/to/share /local/mount/point

Apologies for any confusion, but yes I want to mount a local folder TO
my NAS drive, so that I can see the files on my NAS drive from another
device.

On the _local_ machine (that is the SMB server in this case), make sure
/etc/samba/smb.conf contains a section such as:

[mymusic]
path = /media/Music
comment = Music Directory
browsable = yes
read only = no
create mask = 0660
directory mask = 0770
guest ok = yes

And that smbd and nmbd are running as services, restart them if you have
edited smc.conf.

On the _NAS_, edit /etc/fstab

//servername/sharename /mountpoint cifs
user=useronserver,password=userpassword,defaults 0 0

In my case (above), that is
//osmc-3plus.local/mymusic /mnt/osmc user=osmc,pass=osmc,defaults 0 0

Make sure /mountpoint is available

Then: 'sudo mount /mountpoint' should work.

Thanks but I have finally solved the problem.
It was simply down to a silly mistake on my part as I didn't have the
full correct path for the server part, although I did for the local
computer, Doh!

I should have had:
//192.168.0.42/mnt/Media/music and NOT just 192.168.0.42/Media/music
I don't know why I missed it, but it is working ok now!
