You've whooshed me.

I do my own calculations because whomever is preparing the form is
responsible for the arithmetic. The calcuations aren't always correct on
tax preparation software. It may not be a programming error but an
exception for program isn't flexible enough to handle.

As far as printing it out, I had JUST STATED IN THE VERY NEXT SENTENCE
THAT YOU DIDN'T QUOTE, I want the postmark or the certfied mail receipt.
Also, as The Real Bev just pointed out, electronic filing isn't always
possible at peak of the peak times, like the exact moment a return is
due.

That's for setting up a straw man with the selective quoting trolling
technique to remove necessary context.

Asshole

You mean you don't trust the IRS to do the sums right? Wow. You must
live in Montana or something.

Do you use an electronic calculator or do you suspect the IRS have
installed a back door in all of those too?

Doesn't the IRS system give you an immediate electronic acknowledgement
and unique reference number? The on-line filing system provided by HM
Revenue & Customs in the UK does.

I suppose that could happen. You could probably avoid it by filing a
day earlier, though. And think of all the time you'd save on your
adding machine.

I mean what I actually meant as may be discerned from the words I had
written, without requiring a constantly-morphing troll to re-interpret
them. I know this Usenet thing is hard for you.

>Wow. You must live in Montana or something.

>Do you use an electronic calculator or do you suspect the IRS have
>installed a back door in all of those too?

You actually didn't snip the applicable quote. "after doing my
calculations on a spreadsheet"

IRS isn't performing the calculations. They offered a somewhat useful
bit of tax preparation software, which they didn't write. The software
makes the calculations. IRS hasn't seen the lines on the tax form before
the signed return has been filed, duh.
>>As far as printing it out, I had JUST STATED IN THE VERY NEXT SENTENCE

I didn't tell YOU not to file electronically. For my purpose, both the
postmark or certified mail receipt establish timeliness.

If the return cannot be filed through the electronic filing system, then
timeliness cannot be established. Severe network outages and overloaded
computer servers do not shut down the post office.

>>Also, as The Real Bev just pointed out, electronic filing
>>isn't always possible at peak of the peak times, like the exact

>I suppose that could happen.

What you suppose is irrelevant. The Real Bev stated that it happened to
her and, since she's not trolling like you, the readers of this
newsgroup do accept that as a fact.

>You could probably avoid it by filing a day earlier, though. And think
>of all the time you'd save on your adding machine.

The adding machine is used for addition and subtraction, not for filing
a tax return. I hope that helps.

>>That's for setting up a straw man with the selective quoting trolling

>>Asshole

>Just passing through, are you, sir?

Just interacting with a dishonest Usenet poster who is so ashamed of how
he posts, he changes his pseudonym repeatedly and puts a domain name on
From that he isn't associated with.

As far as I'm concerned, all abbreviations except for very common ones
like US and UK, should be avoided in newsgroups. They so frequently
confuse many of us and cause the message to not be understood. Like
you, I didn't know what JOOI meant, but unlike you, I just ignored the
message and went to the next one. To me it wasn't worth the trouble of
Googling it.

If Handsome Jack wants to avoid the extra typing of Just Out of
Interest, he should use a program like AitoHotKey so he can type JOOI
and have it come out as Just Out of Interest.

HRBlock has made some minor errors (<$50) in both directions which
seemed to be the result of some internal fuckup and which I just let go.
One year it just didn't print an essential page -- the State of
Kalifornia rejected a credit until I supplied the missing info. Printed
the page, mailed it, credit went through. HRBlock is definitely
klunkier than TurboTax and some of its functions need to be beaten into
submission to accomplish tasks (like printing out EST forms for the next
year) that should just be automatic.

The whole point of the software is that I DON'T WANT TO THINK ABOUT THIS
SHIT EVER. BTDT and don't want to do it any more. At least robbers
don't demand that you carry the loot to their car. I triple-check the
numbers that I feed in by hand (I probably should download the brokerage
1099, but I'd still have to check that against the paper so why
bother?), print it out, write the check, mail it off and forget it until
the quarterly check needs to be sent. The whole process is emotionally
draining.

I never bothered with certifying the mail. BUT the year before last the
Feds charged me a penalty and interest for filing a couple of months
late. I had mailed at least a week early and took photos of the stamped
envelopes, a copy of which I sent. Bastards lost it in their own
system. They forgave (ONE TIME ONLY, they stated) the penalty because
I'd been a good girl for 5 fucking decades, but they couldn't forgive
the $20 interest. I sent them a check. Last year I sent it certified
and was really glad that they changed their policy and had the check and
the forms sent to the same address. It just seems WRONG that you should
have to bribe the USPS to do its job.

IRS is more flexible on abatement of penalties than interest. To request
abatement of interest, you file Form 843 Claim for Refund and Request for
Abatement with the office that sent you the notice after it processed
your tax return. I had to do that for my mother's 2021 tax return and
I'm sure I'll have to do it for 2022 when they get around to charging
interest. Thanks to the COVID rebates, my mother was overpaid for 2020
and told IRS to apply the refund to 2021. Well, her 2020 tax return was
processed after 2021 was received and she got a refund check; IRS did
not follow her instructions. The refund was so large that it was
intended to be applied to 2022 as well.
