Tucked away in !Boot>Library there is an app <whois> it is dated 24 Jan
2008. Any attempt to use it results in an "Internal error: undefined
instruction at &000087A4"
I know that WHOIS searches can be done through web pages but is there a
later application to use natively?

Not here on my ARMX6, maybe it came from another computer?

There is a Whois application available via Packman that works on this
ARMX6.

Kevin Wells has a front end for the website domaintools.com called
!IPwhois. Unfortunately this needs a capable browser like Iris as the
site uses reCapcha to check for real persons.

I've got version 4.7.8 10-Oct-2005 which works under RO5.28 on a Pi 4B.
It's in with a lot of other GNU utilities, so I'm not sure where it came
from.

Thanks to all who replied. The application in Packman, Doug Webb's
solution has been installed and works well.
