I am reviewing the installation instructions at
http://latex.silmaril.ie/formattinginformation/instsw.html

• Is it still really necessary nowadays to give a screen-by-screen,
click-by-click description of what to do?

• Can it be assumed that even the beginner is able to install TL
without prompts?

I do make it a condition of the rest of the document that you know how
to use your computer
(http://latex.silmaril.ie/formattinginformation/introduction.html#skills)
but should this apply to installation as well?

If there are still people out there who need this level of hand-holding,
I'm very happy to go through it and re-shoot the screens, except that I
don't have access to any Windows systems, let alone modern ones. I do
have a spare desktop PC with a 1024×768 screen but I'd need to obtain
Windows first because currently its running Linux.

All suggestions welcome

Peter

I am one of the people who value such instructions even though I'm not a beginner: I wrote my first program nearly 60 years ago.

Me, too, on both counts. I value such instructions, and I'm not a
beginner, having written my first program more than 65 years ago.

Thank you both. I shall try to reproduce them, although I wrote my first
program a mere 50 years ago.
