I state that Ubuntu is chasing LyX off. My installed version is 2.3.6, and
it is bugged : no compilation succeeds, with the error message :
LaTeX Error: Option clash for package tipa.
LaTeX Error: File `ifsym.sty' not found.
LaTeX Error: Option clash for package tipa.
LaTeX Error: File `ifsym.sty' not found.

Now, LyX is no more registered as an Ubuntu available nor as a present
application.

However, a still valid version is working on a windows PC. But I need to
change the addresses of more than 150 images.

If the package ifsym.sty is missing, that means it's missing from your
TeX installation, and nothing to do with LyX or Ubuntu.

Install ifsym from CTAN and see if that works.

It comes from texlive-fonts-extra so
sudo apt install texlive-fonts-extra
will install it

/apt/ c'est l'installateur des applications sur un système basé sur
Debian. Comme Ubuntu est un de ces système, /apt/ s'occupe de tout.
L'utilisateur n'a qu'à lui apporter sa confiance..

Pour information, il sera installé en

/usr/share/texlive/texmf-dist/tex/latex/ifsym/ifsym.sty

Mais c'est sans grand intérêt, le moteur TeX se chargera de le trouver
là ou il est.
L'organisation n'a absolument rien de mystérieuse, elle figure dans la
documentation de TeXLive et du système Debian. Elle n'est pas toujours
facile à trouver. En cas de difficultés on peut demander de l'aide.

Merci ! Pas encore exécuté cette mise à jour sur Ubuntu. Yapluka...
En attendant, consacré une journée à convertir toutes les adresses
Linux en adresses utilisables sous Win, et OK, tout compilé avec les
figures. J'ai plus de trois ans de retard à terminer cette 9e édition du
manuel.

C'est fait, merci.
L'erreur ifsym.sty a disparu, mais il en reste tellement d'autres, et ça
ne compile toujours pas sur Ubuntu, au delà du fichier .tex.
