Is anyone out there running XeLaTeX under Red Hat, Fedora, or a
derivative, from the texlive-scheme-full RPM package, who would be
prepared to answer a couple of questions about fonts and folders?

Pretty please?

Peter

I am not *currently* running a Red Hat derivative with Linux installed, but I
have in the past. What are your specific questions?

Thanks for the offer.

1. What directory (path) does the texlive-scheme-full RPM install TeX in?

2. Does it execute fc-cache after installation to add any fonts to the
fontconfig index?

I don't know about texlive-scheme-full RPM. but on CentOS 6 / Red Hat
Enterprize 6, TeX installs under /usr/share/texmf. CentOS 6 is the last Red
Hat flavored distro I installed my desktop and laptop (I have CentOS 7 on a
VPS, but that is a server and does not have TeX/LaTeX installed).

I am not sure.

Hi Peter

If you are running ANY version of Linux, then you might be able to answer your question yourself by using https://distrobox.privatedns.org/. Basically, it is a desktop and command-line friendly wrapper around docker or podman (preferred).

I spoke about it at a TeX Hour last year:
https://tug.org/pipermail/tex-live/2022-June/048192.html
https://youtu.be/-Kro60y4Pmc

In time there will be a link to this information and video from https://texhour.github.io/

with kind regards

Jonathan

Yes, thanks for the suggestion. I did burn a USD Fedora ISO and ran it
up, but the allocated memory "disk" wasn't big enough to install TeX.

Thanks very much.
