Dear Christian Justen,

How to add a stress symbol (>) above the hebrew letter.

I put :

¥newcommand{¥stress}[1]{¥tipaUpperaccent[.1ex]%
{¥raise.1ex¥hbox{¥scalebox{0.3}{¥(¥bm{<}¥)}}}{#1}}
¥newcommand{¥str}[1]{¥stress{¥<{#1}>}}

It does work but it should be like \str{...}\<...>.

Instead of this style, I would like to use like

\< ... \str{...} ...>

Best regards,

Mitsuru Yamazaki

Hm, unfortunately I don't understand what your code is supposed to do
- even when replacing ¥ by \, TeX doesn't like it, since it doesn't
know the definition of \bm.

In theory, something like

\newcommand{\hebstress}[1]{\tipaupperaccent[.2ex]{'275}{#1}}

and

\<...\hebstress{...}...>

should work - but it does not. It does work, if you replace .2ex by
something like -4pt, but that is not too useful. Looks as if at some
place ex is set to 0 when using the Hebrew font.

Best regards,
Christian.

Dear Christian Justen,

Thank you cordially very much for your support.

The command that you proposed

\newcommand{\hebstress}[1]{\tipaupperaccent[-4pt]{'275}{#1}}

does work !

Similarly could you tell me how to add the metheg IT under the word.

Probably I think it will work if one can replace > {'275} by the small IT.

Out side of \< ... >,
\newcommand{\IT}[1]{\tipaLoweraccent[.1ex]%
{\lower.3ex\hbox{\hspace{-0.2mm}\scalebox{0.38}{\sff I\hspace{-0.2mm}T}}}{#1}}
does work, but how to do inside \< ... \hebit{n} ...> to add the metheg "IT" under the character \<n> ?

Best regards,

Mitsuru Yamazaki

As I said, at some place an error occurred that set the value of ex to
0. Unfortunately I couldn't find enough time to have a closer look at
the problem. For the time being the only workaround is to use either
a fixed value (which is not very useful when using different font
sizes) or em instead of ex. Sorry for this inconvenience! (Funny
though, that no one noticed this error during the last 20 years ...)

Christian.

Is there any chance of an update? I have a whole collection of
half-baked enhancements. One adds the extraneous Hireq for Biblical
Yerushalayim (and possibly other signs in a similar position) and the
rest are for editing manuscripts.

All those can (and maybe deserve to) be done much better.

I'm afraid I can't promise anything at the moment.
