There was a program IIRC many years ago that let you place files or text
within it (possibly a dummy !Sprite file) that could hide personel
information.
Am I correct and if so what was the program called?

You may be thinking of !Stego, by Nat Queen.

It is on his website http://www.queen.clara.net/pgp/acorn.html
where there are lots of security utilities.

Thats the free version of the application and has many features missing.

The current developed version 2.29a

Hear, hear. Absolutely. Wouldn't be without it.

I seem to remember the discussion at the time suggested tongue-in-cheek
that it would be pretty much as secure simply to store the information
in the form of a Draw file with all the text converted to outlines,
which would be undecipherable under anything but RISC OS and
unrecognisable even as a graphics format by any spy's OS. :-p

Oh happy days. (Probably).

Experimentally, a friend and I used to send each other secret messages
using Drawfiles.

As Harriet notes above... Then we'd select everything, group it and make
it (Lines and fills) white.

Later we decided to change the filetype before sending. :-)

I do remember the only weakness we found was the heading of the file when
put in an advanced text editor of the Zap type. "DrawÉ

Not that they'd find anything useful unless they knew the process to
reveal.

Ah well it was a long time ago and was a fun experiment at the time.

I recall, many moons ago, sending my credit card details to CJE for
something wraped up in a draw file.

I'm sure the at the egg heads at the donut would try out the Linux file
command, spot that is says "RISC OS Draw file data", and then have a
google for where they could download a copy of RISC OS.
