Hi everyone,

maybe this is not relevant for most users, but:

When making backups I usually boot the properly installed machine via MGA
installation DVD, mount the internal harddisk and an externally attached
USB drive as /mnt/sda1 and /mnt/sdb1.

Then I make a tar or tgz archive from sda1 and store it somewhere on sdb1.

In the case that the external drive is (hardware) password protected, a
command like hdparm --security-unlock is needed. But this one is not
available during rescue boot. Other boot disks like Knoppix do have this
in their list of tools, but at the moment Mageia does not.

Any idea where and against whom a "ticket" could be raised?

Thanks!

Best regards,

Markus

Where is it missing? If you mean it isn't installed by default, that's because
most people will never use it. It's easy to install if wanted.

Hi, thanks!

I meant that when using the installation DVD rather than some Live disk
and you boot into "rescue" mode, then you can get a console, but hdparm
isn't reachable. Even though on the same DVD it is there as rpm.

Maybe some Live disks provide such tools, but it would be much more handy
to only have to have one disk for installing, rescue booting and unlocking
the harddisk.

Best regards,

Markus

Understood. Please open a bug report for Mageia 10 requesting that it be added
to the drakx-installer-rescue package.
