I first had an A5 document which I started with:
\documentclass[a5paper]{article}

Now I want it to be on an A4, but filled the same. (So everything
should be twice as high/width). As I understood it, normally 10pt is
used. So I tried:
\documentclass[a4paper, 20pt]{article}

But that does not work. If I change it to:
\documentclass[a4paper, 40pt]{article}

The document stays the same. So this is not the way to change my font
size. How should I do it?

You can only define 10pt, 11pt and 12pt, but it can be done with:
\documentclass[a4paper, 14pt]{extarticle}

14pt and not 20pt, because it should not be doubled, but multiplied
with the sqrt of 2.
