WHEN THE 4717 IS ATTACHED DIRECTLY TO A PS/2 MOD 30 - 286,
SHIPPED AFTER AUGUST 1, 1989, AN 8602 POST ERROR MESSAGE
MAY BE DISPLAYED AND THE 4717 WILL NOT WORK. THIS IS DUE
TO A CHANGE MADE TO THE MOD 30 - 286 PLANAR BOARD WHICH
GROUNDED PIN 2 OF THE POINTING DEVICE PORT.

ORDER (NO CHARGE ) RPQ # S82021 TO RECEIVE AN INTERPOSER
CABLE THAT WILL CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. THE INTERPOSER CABLE
IS P/N 31F6759.

NOTE: THIS SITUATION MAY APPLY TO OTHER SYSTEM UNITS SUCH AS
8557.

Well, it's a good way to tell the difference between a 'Type 1' and 'Type 2' planar on the Model 30 286 (and 25 286) - as well as the date of the switch.

Dave, I czeched the 8530 RETAIN rips, other than the 4718 tip, I didn't
notice anything specifically on the serial port.
