Just Damn....did it again. By accident, all groups are highlighted,
selected "Get all Headers" instead of "Get new Headers in Folder". I
really don't have time or desire to bring down 29 Gazzion headers
each, in 30 groups. Any ideas on how to Turn "Get all Headers" OFF
once it starts?

Sure have. Stop, then reboot Agent8, select "Get new Headers in
Folder" and "Get all Headers" will resume the gazzilion header
download.

I pretty much solved this problem by accident. The alphabetically first
ng in my list of ng is 24hoursupport.helpdesk . And at least for
version 1.93, trying to get new headers for that (when all headers will
be new) quickly get jammed up and stops. So it's not exactly whaat you
want but it doesn't take more than 5 or 10 seconds of my time. I
don't know if anything a bout later versions would keep this from
working.

Move the "Get all Headers" button on your toolbar so it is well
away from the "Get new Headers in Folder" button.

If you stop the task while Agent is downloading all headers in a group,
Agent will update the record of headers retrieved to be at the last
header actually retrieved before you clicked "Stop". That last header
could be from many years ago. When you next try to get new headers,
Agent will start retrieving from that last header from many years ago.

To get around this, reset the record of headers retrieved to be in the
present not the distant past. There are two ways to do this in Agent:

1) Use "Action >> Get Headers >> Catch Up With Newsgroups".

This is the faster way.
It has a disadvantage -- you will miss any headers which arrived
after you last successfully completed a "Get New Headers".

2) Use "Action >> Get Headers >> Sample Recent Headers" with the
following options:

2.1 Put a check-mark in "Update record of headers...".
THIS IS IMPORTANT.
If you do not check-mark this, it won't fix the problem.

2.2 If you don't want to miss any headers, set the sample
size to go back before you last successfully completed a
"Get New Headers".

NOTE For users of Agent 1.x - 4.2
In Agent 1.x through 4.x, the sample by date option is
very slow. Users of Agent 1.x - 4.2 should pick the
sample by number option.
Users of Agent 5.0 - 8.00 can pick either option.
