Dear Experts,

https://helpx.adobe.com/in/fonts/kb/postscript-type-1-fonts-end-of-support.html

Hope this adobe announcement reached to all. In this case I have some clarification

1. What will happen to the engines (latex.exe/pdflatex.exe) which work based on type1.
2. Is the existing type1 based font conversion tools available with in installation like truetype to type1, open type to type1, type1 to others... will continue...

Please advise.

Best regards
-vinoth-

This announcement only refers to Adobe commercial products.
LaTeX and related software should not change. And the
Acrobat PDF Reader will continue to display PDFs with
embedded type1 fonts.

Many font packages available at CTAN (and in TeXLive or
MikTeX) support both type1 usage using traditional engines
or truetype/opentype usage using xelatex or lualatex.

Thank you all for sharing your observation on it. Shall I assume moving forward

1. author society who creating latex papers hereafter majorly will move towards xelatex or lualatex instead of latex or pdflatex
2. the ctan font packages hereafter will not release based on type1.

Please advise.

No you should not make those assumptions; "author societies"
will make their own decisions and CTAN does not control what
font packages choose to support.

Not really: TeX processors are not affected by the change, only Adobe
software.

But yes, people may prefer in future to use TTF or OTF fonts instead of PS.

> 2. the ctan font packages hereafter will not release based on type1.

Not really either, except that package authors may choose to add TTF
and/or OTF support to packages currently supporting PS fonts.

Again, it's only Adobe's own software that is affected.
