(You want to use Linux? Fine. But stop criticizing every computer user
who thinks Windows is enough for them.)

https://www.reddit.com/r/unpopularopinion/comments/8h8dns/linux_sucks/

In a nutshell:
"Windows can do 100% of what I need a laptop to do. Would I appreciate
things that Linux does like low ram desktop environments (LXDE, XFCE),
the ability to uninstall Windows bloat and it with FOSS, the ability
to control and say no to updates, enhanced privacy options, etc. Yes.
Yes I would appreciate these things. But I cannot sacrifice
productivity for the ability to endlessly tweak things. Linux is a
hobbyist OS. Until Linux can do 100% of what I need a computer to do
it is not better than Windows. In fact it still fails at some really
rudimentary tasks that ensures it will never enter the mainstream
market."

Linux sucks

I started playing with Linux distros back in February when I bought
some wiped laptops from a school sale. I usually see memes and
computer people on Reddit talk about how awesome Linux is and how its
better than Windows. So I tried out a lot of distros on an old Dell
Latitude E5500. I tried Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, Manjaro, Solus,
ArchAnarchy, the only distro I could never install was Debian.

Linux sucks and will never break into the computer market because
Linux still struggles with very basic tasks.

Not all distros have wi-fi drivers that work out of the box. This was
the reason I could never figure out how to install Debian. Linus
Torvalds couldn't install Debian
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHGTs1NSB1s. Richard Stallman has
never installed GNU/Linux https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umQL37AC_YM

The wi-fi drivers that do work out of the box don't always work well.
I had a lot of problems with Manjaro wi-fi where it simply wouldn't
connect to the secure college network and I had to use public wi-fi.
Then an update was missing a file and killed the wi-fi outright. I
spent 3 hours in tech support hell talking to people in the forums
trying to fix it and eventually just rage reinstalled the OS.

PulseAudio will still break occasionally.

Not all websites support Linux. There was nothing more annoying than
when I logged onto the computer to do economics homework on Pearson
EconLab only to get told my OS isn't supported. I had to use my
Windows machine.

Proprietary software like photoshop and Office won't work on Linux.
"Oh but just use Wine!" I don't have time to rip a copy of Microsoft
Office from online, then spend another 2-3 hours watching youtube
videos trying to configure Wine so it can run. I can just do it on a
Windows machine.

Linux fanboys are unbearable. Specifically the Free Software guys, not
so much the open source people. They will usually tell you to RTFM
instead of trying to help you when you have a question or a problem.
There's this really vicious and petty divide between open source and
free software that is less about ideological differences and more
about whether Linus Torvald or Richard Stallman deserve credit for
creating Linux

Almost all of the free software Linux uses can run in Windows without
having to use an emulator.

Every attempt at shipping Linux laptops has failed. The idea is that
you buy a laptop with Linux preinstalled and you don't have to worry
about driver issues and it will just work but Linux laptops are really
cheap quality and can't be found in most retail chains. Your best bet
is still to buy a Windows machine and install Linux and maybe replace
the BIOS.

Most distros are irrelevant. There like 5 major Linux distros who's
only discernible difference is they use different packaging formats.
Ubuntu and Debian are almost the same except for packaging. This is
bad because the number of Linux distros means people aren't innovating
they're duplicating efforts.

Desktop environments are the only thing Linux nails but they're all
just customizable variations of old Windows like 7 and XP. GNOME I
don't get and Unity was so unpopular Canonical is dropping it and
using GNOME for its flagship.

Windows can do 100% of what I need a laptop to do.
In fact it still fails at some really
rudimentary tasks that ensures it will never enter the mainstream
market.
