Hello again,

Searching street, city, etc. doesn't get any hits in SM's address books
even though they exist in contacts' private tabs. This was in my SM
v2.53.16 (User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:91.0)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/91.0 SeaMonkey/2.53.16 User agent: Mozilla/5.0
(Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:91.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/91.0
SeaMonkey/2.53.16) in my updated, 64-bit W10 Pro PC.

Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon. :)

Interesting. You're using Linux and a newer SM version. I checked my
updated 64-bit Debian bullseye v11 PC's SM v2.53.16 and still reproduced
the same issue. :(

The only add-on I had that touched the address book, was:-
Printing Tools 1.2.5
Disabling that required a restart, which now gets the same result as
yourself.
Enabling the add-on, failed to recover my ability to search city,
street, etcetera, so the add-on must have kept a 'preference' open to
enable it.
I checked about:config "address" query, before disabling the add-on,
which showed a lot of modified preferences.
After enabling the add-on, ~ very few about:config modified prefs.
So, a legacy setting kept my AB functional, but is now gone. Barry

SeaMonkey 2.56.16 from UbuntuZilla on Linux Mint.

From a quick try using the "City" field, it only seems to search the
"Work" address, not the "Private" address. I didn't try other fields,
since the only other option in the search dialog that appears related to
addresses is "Street", and there's no corresponding "Street" field in
the address cards. Maybe that just searches the first line of the
address, or maybe the first two, but I don't have time to experiment
that much now. There don't appear to be options to search the country,
county or postcode.

ADDENDUM:
After shutting down the system, restarting etcetera, my AB search again
works for all fields except 'Street' which does not work at all.

Mark correctly states there is no 'street' field in the address book.

There is a field labelled 'Address' but it isn't in the search menu.

You can customise/add-terms to the main 'Search Messages' search-engine,
but not to this the AB 'advanced' search-engine.

(I think 'Private' addresses are not meant to be generically searched,
i.e. they're 'private' for a reason.)

Mine is now restored, which is not much help to you Ant. Barry.

I can reproduce this, at least for "Street" and "City" when the search
hit would be in the "Private" tab / "Home" section.

Looking at the code (suite/mailnews/content/ABSearchDialog.js), if I'm
reading correctly, the address book search looks at the work city for
"City" and work address for "Street".

For 'Street', it only searches the work-Address's first line.
I have been using the first line for the postal address (PO Box
etcetera), and the 2nd. line for the street address.

It can't find any street in the second line of the Work Address.
Shifting the street-name to the first line of Work Address, now has mine
working for 'street' again. Thanks for that head--up, Mark and Nuno. Barry.
