The key derivation method "opensslv 1" is deprecated. Using
-pbkdf=>'pbkdf2' would be better.

I'm seeing this error when using news.eternal-september.org when
replying to a message.

This is not an error from inside Agent itself.

This might be an error from the news.eternal-september.org server.
You could try asking Eternal-September about it.

You could also try changing the Agent configuration as described in
this post:

However, I do not have much confidence that this is the problem here.

Do you have something between Agent and the news server? For example,
are you using STunnel or another openssl provider to provide the SSL/TLS
for Agent? Or does your AV intercept the connection to the news server?

I presume you see this error when clicking "Send", not when clicking
"Reply to Message".

Thomas Hochstein had the more accurate answer.
(Unfortunately his early reply arrived late to all my news servers.)

It looks as if ES's server directed some text to the newsreader which
should instead have been directed to a log. Although the post was
accepted by ES, the newsreader interpreted the mis-directed text as a
failure response.
