Hi all

I have agent 8 and my first version was in 1995. I think 1.94

I have sent in a few post over this matter to the group

I have followed all advice on here to get a new serial number for my son

I have emailed ALL THE EMAILS you can think of on there site to get a serial number

NO ONE HAS GOT BACK TO ME OVER 7 WEEKS NOW

ALSO I CANNOT GET into my account on the news server which I PAY FOR

THE buy page does not work at all

So what do I do the trail one has ran out now

account... Not sure what's going on, but at least part of it works...
Been using Agent since ver 0.99 and their server since it opened.

Screwing around with binary groups in this day and age is a good way
to get zonked by the malware morons. In the old days, one could
download from Warez groups with hardly a problem. I wouldn't try it
today.

It wouldn't, that's how they made you pay for the new version, you
needed a newer key. But you are free to use the old version. If you only
need text, not binary groups, not too many things have changed afaicr,
most features in the new versions were for binary downloaders.

The binaries I've gotten from a newsgroup since 2006 have been music,
movies, and books. I've never had a potential problem except for exe
files disguised as one of those file types in archives. Of course,
never unarchive exe files because they are very likely malware.
Otherwise, getting binaries is pretty safe and Agent does a good job
handling them even before version 8.0. I started with Free Agent,
which might have been version 3.1, and have used every version since
then. I can't complain.

I downloaded binaries with this moldy old Agent 1.91 for over 2
decades with no problems. I have 8 and it does do a better job with
huge files like movies but if you just want MP3s the old one is fine.
I prefer it for text. I used to also get an occasional piece of
software but I think I would rather have unprotected sex with a
Tijuana hooker than run something I got from a Warez site these days.
The real problem is usenet as a whole is dying. Your typical MP3 group
used to have thousands of new headers a day and now the dozen I watch
won't get more than a couple hundred a month.
I guess it is what the Napster guy told Congress "When you make music
easier to buy than to steal, people will buy it".
I do clip audio from Amazon Music and You tube tho. I sort of buy
that. I pay to hear it but if I can hear it I can record it.

All did was to transfer all his data files over to that version

It is still nice that there is still people out there that can help

All I have to do now is go and find out how too get into my account for the news groups

You're welcome. It's the same key I use on my copy and easily found in the
Agent.ini file held in the Data folder.

It may be helpful to make it portable on a memory drive, like I do, and make
it easy move it from computer to computer as long as you store the whole
folder, say, "Agent Portable" on a root Drive such as 'C', 'D' or anywhere.

Yes, but very aggravating to know anyone here with an easily-accessible key
preferred to just take the piss out of your misfortune instead. Forte is
dead, so it's no skin off anyone's nose if its expensive keys get shared
around now.

100 % I agree with you .

It is not that I have come on here and ask for a key and not bothered to PAY FOR IT FROM FORTE

I have emailed every dam email that there is on there site and others BUT THEY chose to not even get
back.

Many people here surely remember Jim Bradley's refined motto, "can steal,
can't read". Regretfully, it's time to update it. Maybe with something like
"can't sell, can't pay"?

Forté's disappearance is no reason to bury Agent.
