I am suddenly unable to read Amazon book samples in Firefox (and in Pale Moon). When I click on a
book to read a sample, it opens to the cover, with a + sign for increasing the size of the image
instead of a way to read the sample. I checked Edge and Opera and had no problem reading the samples
there.

Is anyone else having this problem? It started after I did the latest update yesterday (to 102.13.0
esr); but since it's not working in Pale Moon either, I suspect it's not the update. I started
Firefox in safe mode but had the same problem there.

My apology: Cancel this request. Amazon apparently has changed how to open books in Firefox and Pale
Moon. Now you have to click on "Read sample," which is under the book image and can't be seen until
you scroll beyond the book image. In Edge and Opera, you can read the sample either by clicking on
the book cover or by clicking on Read sample.

Sounds more likely the site has different code branches it doles out
depending on the client that visits the site.

You can change the User-Agent header sent by the client to the server (I
think it's still an about:config setting), or use an extension to bounce
between different UA strings to see if you can make the site behave the
same whether using Chrome, Edge, or Firefox. However, the UA string got
deprecated as a means of determining which client was visiting a site
(it wasn't an accurate measure of the capabilities of the web client).
Instead the site should test the client for the capabilities the site
wants to use to determine if they have to back off to simpler code for
clients that don't support all the capabilities. But there are still a
LOT of sites that use the UA string to determine what code they will
present to a client.

I can't see how Firefox could be modifying the page code as you
describe. That's the site determining which content to deliver based on
which client you connect to them. Maybe there's a feedback link at
Amazon to complain about them delivering different web docs based on
visiting client.
