Hi all,

I'm trying to install Agent 8 (latest version, registered) on a
brand-new Windows 11 Pro machine. When I click on the executable to
start the installation I get an "angent.exe - System Error The code
execution cannot proceed because unrar.dll was not found. Reinstalling
the program may fix this problem." pop-up error message.

Renistalling what program? I see sites where "unrar.dll" may be
downloaded but I don't really trust them and even if I did, I wouldn't
know where to put the file.

What's going on here? And how do I fix it?

The installer should be an .MSI file. Opening my copy in 7-Zip shows
that unRAR is a file contained within the installer.

The most I can state is that either you have a corrupt installer file,
or something in Windows doesn't like the installer file (the MSI should run
under admin privileges).

To install Agent 8, first run the Agent 8 installer "agentenu800-1272.msi" (11,272 KB).

The Agent 8 program "agent.exe" (17,733 KB) will not run without several other
files which the Agent 8 installer puts in the same folder along with "agent.exe".
Those other files include "unrar.dll" (821 KB) and "agent.xrs" (152 KB).

As you realized, I was indeed trying to install Agent with the
executable rather than with the installation program. (How may I FU?
Let me count the ways...)

After running agentenu800-1272.msi, I exited the installer, renamed
"c:\Users\MyName\AppData\Roaming\Forte\Agent\" to
"c:\Users\MyName\AppData\Roaming\Forte\Agent.org\", copied the Agent\
folder from the old machine (which I'd saved to DropBox) to
"c:\Users\MyName\AppData\Roaming\Forte\Agent\", ran Agent from the
Desktop icon, did a "Get new headers in desks", and now I'm writing
this reply on the new machine and thanking you for your terrific help
once again.

I suppose I finally need to copy the agent 8.exe file that you
modified to correct filter expiration bug to c:\Program Files
(x86)\Agent\; or does that matter any more?

Yes, that does still matter if you want filter expiration to work
properly.
