As someone else pointed out, Google it instead. Most Usenet newsgroups
are dead and haven't had any traffic in years while the binary ones
are used to transmit obfuscated copyrighted media content. There are a
few dying embers still faintly glowing in the steadily encroaching
dark void however; this NG is one of them.

I tried it on a WD 3.5 drive, ordering the supposedly correct PCB from Ebay.

It did NOT work.

The only way that works is if it is exactly the same model at the same
engineering change level. You still have the possibility that the
card is not the whole problem. We dabbled with that when I was in the
computer biz trying to recover data from a bad drive, with spotty
success.
