I have a great many bookmarks ;}
>1 MB when saved as JSON or HTML
>600 folders(including sub-folders)
estimate >5000 entries

The search function of Bookmarks Manager can find any individual bookmark.

*HOWEVER* it can't find _ANY_ folder heading :<

The left panel of Bookmarks Manager makes moving/reorganizing folders
extremely easy.

I can't edit what I can't find.
Is there any remedy (likely an external tool)?
[ have versions >= 2.49.4, will update when new machine available ]
[ suspect some bookmarks go back to Netscape days ;]

TIA

2.53.x won't find folder names either. Be very careful with this in 2.49.x wrt
folders and moves. There are lots of problems in the old version. like cut and
paste broken.

Noted.
As I was introduced to computers as an E.E. student in the 60's,
there are multiple copies and explicit backups <grin>

Though I've written or maintained some software, I don't refer to myself
as a "programmer".

As I consider retirement an opportunity to expand horizons, would it be
feasible to create an external tool by extracting the Bookmark Manager
code to meet my goal?

(Noting that you, Richard, seem to be posting with Linux) I do know
there was a Windows program that would examine a (Netscape Suite??
Mozilla Suite?? SeaMonkey Suite??) bookmarks folder and report any
duplicates.

I have used it on my Win7 installation some time ago.

Would it be possible to export your Bookmarks File, then import that
file into a Spreadsheet and search the spreadsheet for duplicates there
and then make the deletions from your actual Bookmarks folder with-in
SeaMonkey?? (A very slow process, I guess.)
