".... the only solutions I could think of would be to reverse-engineer the AIX driver or to find someone inside IBM who has access to this information."

I tried guys, got the request before IBM legal and was shot down. The AIX team dug and found the the archive for 8F62 device but was not allowed to release it.
---
"Thank you for your interest in IBM legacy technology and pursuing your hobby.

On your request to avail the code, I had an elaborate discussion with Legal and Engineering team.

As an IBM Policy, IBM will not share the legacy code with anybody.
---
Maybe we can hope for another AIX source code leak someday. 4.1.3 is out there we need 4.1.5 - 5.1.

Um, do they have anything on writing device drivers for AIX 5.1L that
might work?

I need the start up methods talked about in this AIX book in Chapter 7. srent_config, srent_open, srent_close, etc. (sr stands for San Remo)

http://www.mouritzen.dk/aix-doc/en_US/a_doc_lib/aixprggd/kernextc/ethernet_dd.htm

IBM is no help. The lawyers wouldn't even let me buy a license.
