Until a few days ago I had Xed specified as external editor for source
in Firefox under Linux Mint. Now it's gone back to using the internal
viewer and I can't get it back.

I've done what it says on the tin in about:config, as follows:

view_source.editor.external= true
view_source.editor.path = \usr\bin\xed

but no luck. Any suggestions?

Jack

What advantage do you gain from using an external editor? Just wondered.

On my SuSE box I don't have Xed - though it's in the standard repo.

The major advantage for me is that I use the same editor for
absolutely everything - programming, E-Mail, writing notes, etc. Thus
I am very familiar with it and can write proficiently with it.

I also use an external editor in Firefox, Thunderbird and many other programs.
It's more comfortable for me to have *one* central text editor for as much
programs as possible.
Syntax-highlighting, fonts, colors, tools, menus, etc.. are configured as i
like it in my standard editor Geany. And if i want to change something i only
have to change it there and not all the other programs.

Ah. Thanks.

Serves me right for sticking with Windows for so long.
