I have an RPC with Viewfinder card. PC too. Both have DVI outputs going
through a DVI KVM switch to a DVI monitor input.
Since the RPC is used to store wiring etc schematics in my workshop, the
monitor feed is split to DVI and HDMI - the HDMI feed going to a small TV
above the workbench. All worked just fine.

After replacing another TV in the house I decided to use the replaced one
in the workshop. As it is more modern and a bigger screen than the
existing one.

Now, the RPC doesn't show a picture at all to its monitor on boot - unless
the TV is switched on. Bring the TV from standby - even when HDMI not
selected - and the RPC monitor works as normal. I can then switch off the
TV.

The 'new' TV is very much better than the old one - given my aging eyes -
and I'd like to keep it.

Viewfinder is set to 1600x900 74Hz if that helps at all.

Yes rather strange.

I'd try swapping the ports used on the KVM

I'm not sure if changing minitortype and sync from auto affects anything
when a ViewFinder is in use but if the DVI swap doesn't work I'd try that.

No difference.

The Viewfinder card seems pretty independent of the basic RPC monitor
settings.

I have an active HDMI switch used with the TV in the living room. 4 in, 2
out. Allows me to feed the PVR etc to the TV in the kitchen.

Nicked that to experiment. If I insert it in the feed to the TV, and
switch it to no input, the RPC boots OK to the monitor. If then switch it
the KVM feed, both the TV and monitor work just fine.

So found a same make 2 x 1 HDMI switch on Ebay used for not a lot, which
has just arrived. That does the job too. Not a perfect solution, but the
best work round I've found.

I'd guess the TV is sending a 'control signal'? back up the HDMI circuit
the Viewfinder card doesn't like.

Glad to hear you found a work around.
