There may be a period article on the Hyperam MC 32/16. I can only get a
preview, but it's a "no view" where the in-line Adobe PDF viewer won't
load. [not the only site, FWIW].

There were two completely different Hyperam cards, one with two 72-bit
SIMMs upper center and the one with 5 sets of ZIPs.

page 174

DESCRIPTION
The Xicor X28168B is a 2K x 8 E2PROM, fabricated with an advanced, high
performance N-channel floating gate MOS technology. Like all Xicor
programmable nonvolatile memories it is a 5V only device. The X2816B
features the JEDEC approved pinout for bytewide memories, compatible
with industry standard RAMs, ROMs and EPROMs.

The X2816B supports a 16-byte page write operation, typically providing
a 300 μsf byte write cycle, enabling the entire memory to be written in
less than 640 ms. The X2816B also features DATA Polling, a system
software support scheme us

Oh-ho...

I finally counted the ZIP sockets, and now it seems clearer, yet more
kontuzing.

Each ZIP socket is for a 20 pin ZIP.

There are eight "banks" for vertically mounted ZIPs [20 pin], each
"bank" is for SEVEN [7] ZIPs.

There are eight horizontally mounted ZIP sockets [20 pin].

This is kontuzing. Seven? Wish we knew the identity of the 20 pin ZIPs.

I first thought the 8x ZIP sockets at the lower left were to add an
eighth ZIP to the four "banks", but 7x8=56, add 8 and that's 64 total
sockets.

The board, Hyperam MC 32/16, is one
of the world's first third-party memory
boards of its size.

It uses 4Mbit memory chip technology
and has been developed for multi-user
environments — large Xenix, Unix, and
OS/2 networks made possible by the in
troduction of powerful 386- and 486
based file servers need large amounts of
memory to function effectively.
