Hi All,

Windows 10
Thunderbird 91.6.1

I need to import a second html file inside everyone's
html signature block.

The second file would be pricing. This so I don't
have to constantly update everyone's signature
blocks every times there is a price change.

Pricing.html is essentially three lines
stating minimum, individual, and bulk pricing.

What I have so far is

<span style="font-weight: bold;">
Name<br>
Company<br>
Address<br>
SUITE x<br>
City, State Zip<br>
xxx-yyy-zzzz PHONE<br>
xxx-yyy-zzzy FAX<br>
<br>
<br>
<object width="3000" type="text/html" data="Pricing.html">/object>
</span>

Firefox will read it, but Thunderbird ignores
the "object" and does not embed/import it
when I open up a new compose/write window.

And as far as I can tell, the other end thinks
the object resides on its own drive.

What am I doing wrong?

Many thanks,
-T

I know nothing about object elements in email, but a lot of things that
work on the web do not work in email.

But if you'd want to link to anything external, it would have to have a
full URL, and be on a server that can be reached from the recipient's
computer.

All that said, there is also a typo in your code. The </object> tag is
missing its first < .

Everyone’s? Within something organization that you rule, I presume.

I would use an absolute URL here, for reasons that should be obvious.
Oh, and I would close the element properly with the end tag </object>.

Oh, you expect the email client to do the inclusion. That’s not how
things are meant to be. The recipient’s email client should process it,
i.e. when reading the HTML code in the incoming message it would
implement the <object> element, but it seems that they generally don’t.

I tested this with <object data="https:..." ...>OBJECT</object> and
<iframe src="https:..." ...>IFRAME</iframe> in a sig, and this was
present in the email sent, but when reading the message e.g. in Gmail on
Chrome, the <object> element is not shown at all and the <iframe>
element is rendered as its content, the string IFRAME in this case.

So apparently you are not supposed to be able to use file inclusion in
HTML-format email. Software used to render incoming messages prevents
that, probably intentionally.

Hmmm ...

<link rel="import" href="Pricing.html">

does not work either

I was afraid of that.

That is going to look for "Pricing.html" on localhost when loaded in a
browser.

You COULD try giving an absolute path, but I don't use obect so that may
not work, but soemthing like

data="https://priceserve.example.com/path/to/Pricing.html"

might work?

Otherwise, you might ned to use something other than object or figure
out how to insert the actual HTML file Pricing.html into the signature
block. But that would be a question for a TB newsgroup or forum.
