For what it is worth, I downloaded Waterfox. After some issues
getting _all_ the bookmarks transferred, I like it. Mostly I like
that it loads pages faster.

I tried it. I found that it loads pages more slowly than Firefox.

Yes. As is Pale Moon. New Moon supports 32-bit and
XP.

It's essentially the same thing, so it may depend on what
extensions/settings you have.

I've never understood this obsession
with speed of loading pages. Most load almost instantly for me.
If you're waiting then you might want to consider a HOSTS
file to block ad/spware domains, as well as NoScript, so that
you're only running script that you actually need for a website.
It's not unusual that a page needs 2 scripts that are local, but
is also trying to load MBs of script from ad/spyware companies.
Then there are the videos that load without asking. There's
the inane prefetching. In short, there's no reason that you
need to wait for pages to load, but if you're not going to
control the ads and spying then you will, often, be loading
20+ MB, with maybe 15-20 script files, for many pages.

It's not the fault of browser makers. They're doing an amazing
job of handling all that bloat and interpreting all the code to
lay out a webpage.

I have been using Waterfox for over a year, and find it faster than
Firefox, and have never had trouble loading pages.

I do use NoScript, that can block scripts from running. Take Fox News,
there are 30 scripts that try to run, I only have to allow 4 to get
the complete website. Most of those scripts are ads.

I found it handled some pages much better than Pale Moon. Still
can't log into and shop on one web site, but ... that stops the
impulse buys. On the whole, "Works for me."

"New Moon, Pale Moon and Waterfox (on Win64)"

Which of these, if any, still support XPCOM/XUL circa Fx52.9ESR?

I don't even know what that means, so I have no idea if it does or
doesn't.

Thanks! The main reason I still use Fx52.9 (last Fx to support XPCOM) as
my GoTo browser is for XPCOM/XUL extensions such as TMP,
Self-Destructing Cookies, Super-Drag and other UI elements that have
since been removed from later versions, like Bookmark description boxes.

Unfortuneatly, Fx52.9ESR is getting a bit long-in-the-tooth and no
longer displays a number of content that have moved to rely on newer CSS
advances.

I'll give both a try and report back what my finds are in terms of older
extension support in case others may be interested.

Hmm, Palemoon download (32/64bit) (Europe/US mirror) time out. Anyone
else experience this?

Yes, I'm getting "Server not found!" ATM, but if it's of any interest my
64-bit versions of PaleMoon on 2 different PCs have both offered to
upgrade, and then successfully upgraded on acceptance of the offer, to
v30 within the last couple of days or so.

First impressions:

1. All my showstopper extensions (TMP, Super Drag) work but not
Self-Destructing Cookies (Not a big deal since my prefs are set to
destroy cookies on close, anyway.
2. Bookmarks (places.sqlite) and password (key3.db and logins.json)
files copy/paste worked. Note: Both Fx52.9esr and Palemoon must be
closed for copy/paste to work.

More testing needed but I'm pleased the the level of compatibility AND
the ability to render and work on pages that 52.9esr faltered on.

More testing needed before ditching Fx52.9esr, though.

It's working fine for me just now. Probably a temporary glitch.

I'm unsure where Pale Moon discussions should go since I couldn't find a
group for it so I'll post an update here. btw, these themes should work
on any platofrm (Windows, MacOS, Linux) that supports Pale Moon.

Added themes for Pale Moon v30+

For those who reminisce on the Netscape 9 Netstripe theme of the great
work done by designer, Andy Fraley. I later updated and ported his theme
to Firefox 28.x after Netscape 9 gave up the ghost, so to speak, and
renamed it Simple Green. Then later made another derivative and named it
Simply Blue.

I recently installed Pale Moon and noticed that its architecture appears
to be built on pre-Australis XPCOM/XUL with updated features. While
their default theme works and looks great, I prefer a bit more color to
my browser chrome and so I updated both the Simple Green and Simply Blue
themes to now also work with Pale Moon.

There are two methods for installing them; via my website or downloading
the theme jar file from my website and using the Add-on manager screen
and electing to install them from the downloaded file. The later
approach would allow one to interrogate the theme .jar* file source
beforehand, if they prefer.

Website: https://projectit.com/
Simple Green Download:
https://www.projectit.com/moz_addons/simplegreen_fx280_tb240_pm28+.jar
Simply Blue Download:
https://www.projectit.com/moz_addons/simplyblue_fx280_tb240_pm28+.jar

* Note: theme jar files are zip files with the extension changed to "jar"

Additionally, Pale Moon has an Add-ons page but, as yet, I've not had
time to discover how to make add-ons available to/from it, see
https://archive.palemoon.org/addons/fxguid/
