I will have to see what the difference is in Bohdi
as compared to Ubuntu & Mint.

I've got my stuff put away now,so will have to investigate some other day.

I found on brother's website
<https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=hll2370dw_us&os=128>

the driver is 6-years old

hll2370dwpdrv-4.0.0-1.i386.deb

but your may want to try the Driver Install Tool which was updated 2
years ago. I have found with Brothers the Driver Install Tool usually
works better than manually installing the deb.

OK, I uninstalled the printer then figured out how to use the shell
script from the Brother website

It installed with no problems but I got the same thing.

Printer is detected just fine and I can sent a print job to it. but it
just sits there "pending."

At least on my Mint installation I have it figured it out.

The automatic setup did not work so I manually entered the device URI

I'll be darned, it worked.

In a way, I'm glad I fooled with it.

Even though using the shell script from Brother did not solve the
problem, I did at least refresh my brain.

I have not run a shell script in 20 years I bet

Thanks to all here.

Hey, it was a cold day and better than working outside.

On my Ubuntu install, not only did I have to manually enter the URI

I could not use the Brother driver

Works fine as generic using PCL 5p

What I do like about this printer is that I can now print from my phone
and my wife can print from her laptop without having to plug into Ethernet.

I'm 74 years old and I'll be darned, my mind is still working (sort of) :)

Thanks.
I think the best part of this was proving to myself that my brain still works.
Also, I am not going to think less of those who use Win11.

Still recall when a buddy if mine who's a computer genius got a Mac because he said he didn't want to waste time thinking:)

Yep, that sounds *exactly* like it was found via mDNS (bonjour / avahi /
zeroconf), and something went wrong (mine presented like 4 options as I
recall ... only 1 worked, and sporadically at that).

I was suspicious of that. Output of the some of diag commands might have
helped pinpoint if you had posted them. I run a local DNS server and
give printers statically assigned IP. I also find when printers have all
the discovery protocols enabled can mess things up. Cuts down on the
multiple instances with different protocols...

It used to be HP and Brothers were dependable and just works. But
finding it is not the brand anymore, but printers in general the force
the online wrapper apps to the printer drivers. Example "HP Smart". Why
the hell to I need Internet to access a local networked printer? Linux
is not Android (This also goes for Windows and I assume Macs as well)

Part of the reason my posted info may not have been the best is because I am a pure amateur who has just enough knowledge to make it look like I know what I'm doing.

Thanks to Red Hat 5.2 though, I got a pretty good education.

The reason I thought to use the generic driver was because I once was working on an ancient Mac in my shop and out of curiosity wanted to see if I could use it with my network printer and the generic post script driver was fine.

I started with Guinness I think that was 7.0. Oh the days of great
confusion. However some of those SNMP command line output would have
indicated a URL issue. Linux has come along way to be mostly GUI
driving, but sometimes good ol' command line can be the most effective.
Sure beats MS's "TroubleShooters" which work their "Black Magic" for
several minutes only to too often not solve the issue...
