Hello,

After updating to version 2.53.16 the emails listing column headers (From, Subject, Date, etc.)
have lost its original background colour (dark grey) and are now displayed with the same white background colour
as the listed emails, which for me is visually confusing.

Has anyone else observed this glitch ?

Rubens

Yep, same here.

It's fine for me with 2.53.16, but looks like you're both on Windows and
I'm on Linux, so not sure if that makes a difference. There's a
screenshot of the top of my thread pane at
<http://www.bourne.me.uk/2023-04-SeaMonkey-ThreadPaneHeaders/ThreadPaneHeaders.png>.
If I'm understanding correctly, the grey bar at the top is white for you.

I use the default theme, and would say the headers were more light grey
than dark, so perhaps you're using the modern (or some other) theme. Or
we've just got different opinions as to what's light vs dark ;)

Another thought is to try in SeaMonkey's "safe mode" (Help > Restart
with Add-ons Disabled). Although the menu item implies it only disables
add-ons, I gather it uses defaults for a few other things as well. If
that brings back the colouring of the headers, it would then be a case
of working out which add-on or other settings causes it when not using
safe mode.

The difference results from
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1807802
mentioned in the release notes. If I remember right the Windows version now
looks more like Linux. Need to tweak it for mac in the next release(s) because
there the box now has and odd even striped look but under Windows I think it
looks ok.

I also, but I was living with it until you mentioned it.

Try installing a couple of themes to restart your Theme functionality.

On checking, I visibly was on the Default theme, while ticked as being
on the Modern theme, and controls, menus and even the add-ons manger
could not change to Default.
I should mention I am on the SeaMonkey/EN-GB language pack so out of
curiousity, I went to:-
<https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-GB/seamonkey/complete-themes/>
and installed a couple of themes, which installed perfectly without
restart, except one that demanded a restart, so I restarted it and
without any further input, Theme functionality and switching ability was
restored. I removed all Themes except the Default and Modern Themes.

It seems that in my case (which also sets
"Edit/Preferences/Advanced,system integration/~ to the OS system default
preferences), simply installing a few Themes via the add-ons manager
Themes page, restored the theme-functionality and Theme switching ability.

Switching from SeaMonkey/EN_GB to SeaMonkey/EN-US retained my properly
coloured Modern Theme, and SeaMonkey/EN-US Add-on Manager sends me to:-
<https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/static-themes/>
but none of those themes will install in my SeaMonkey installation.

Seems this solution only works for SeaMonkey/EN-GB...

I tried several of the downloaded themes, and settled on the stock
Modern theme, which to me is a very mid-grey compared to what I've
become used to, but after using it for a bit, it is easier on the eyes
than the daytime plain white (My OS gives SeaMonkey a nighttime
yellowish tint).

May not help you, but worked for me. Barry.

I'm not sure why the add-ons manager would take you to the wrong URL for
en-US, but that looks like a link for Thunderbird themes, rather than
SeaMonkey themes (I know SeaMonkey themes are hosted on
addons.thunderbird.net, but I'm looking at the bit after /en-US/ vs the
en-GB version). What about
<https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/seamonkey/complete-themes/> (i.e.
the same as the en-GB URL but changed to en-US)? I think the add-ons
available should be the same for all languages, it's just that the text
on the web pages will be localised (or localized ;o)).

> Seems this solution only works for SeaMonkey/EN-GB...

It might have worked for en-US if you were directed to SeaMonkey themes
rather than Thunderbird themes...

You're dead right Mark! This link works perfect (selection = EN-GB).
<https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/seamonkey/complete-themes/>
Nice catch!

I was wrong about the emails listing column headers shaded colour.
Doesn't work in "Default" which is 'white' same as Message Body pane.

Does work in "Modern" Theme, but I reverted to 'Default" as it is less
busy on Ubuntu - less distracting lines and stuff.
I'm accepting of the white thread-pane headers.

Further testing here indicated the glitch affects only the Default theme that I am using (in Windows 7, EN-GB language).

A quick toggle to the Modern theme makes the header's bar look light gray, but switching back to Default theme makes it white-backgrounded again :(

So I don't believe the problem is an extension, firstly because it appeared right after the first Seamonkey restart once the upgrade was done,
and secondly because I have been using the same extensions for years without any issue.

Why to make the Windows version look line Linux ? Is it possible to revert this ?

In the way it is now, we would be better off without any column headers at all.
