Hello. Been a long time since I used LibreOffice Writer, but when I
opened it today and tried to use the Mail Merge feature, the following
message popped up:

"The LibreOffice base component is absent and it is required to use mail
merge."

This is a fresh install of 22.04.3 that I did over the last year.

Thanks for any help.

Jake

I believe you are missing LibreOffice Base which is not installed by
default. Try:

sudo apt install libreoffice-base

Yes. That rings a bell. I think I had this on a Lubuntu install I used
temporarily a while ago. It appears to be due to a mistake in the Ubuntu
distribution.

I can't say that I like the apparent "integration" of the various
Libre Office Programs. Like, when I work in Calc and call "Recently
used files" I get files from Writer, too. And exiting a program greets
me with a screen full of Libre Office Component Tiles instead of just
a quiet and friendly "Bye". According to my taste, they overdo things
and make them unnecessarily complex.

Regards,
H.

Ok, thanks. Working now. Can't help but wonder why not already
installed by default though.

IIRC it's a mistake in recent releases, or at least I recall it being
part of the default installation in the past; and I can't find any
notice that it's being removed by default (but then again, I didn't go
digging too deeply).

I quite agree with you on these points.

Always use apostrophe's and "quotation marks" properly.
