Hello!

This is only relevant for those people who read or post in that
newsgroup using Google Groups.

Google will discontinue Groups in 2 days.

For those who do not know Usenet: -- Usenet is a
distributed communication system consisting of many servers. Google
Groups is only one of them that closes down - other servers will stay
available, but people need to use another server to read and post here.

There are 2 alternatives:

(1) Using a web-based Usenet interface:
Those behave similar to Google Groups, you can read

One of them is:

It's been over 3 years since my last trial (6 months) of Thunderbird. I
would've thought by now the MZLA group have added a Minimize to Systray
on Close" option. Maybe not. If you keep somehow accidentally
navigating the menus to elect Quit/Exit or blunder too often hitting the
"X" titlebar button, use an add-on that minimize Tbird to the systray
when it "closes" (which then only closes the window, not the program,
and you have to use the other methods to unload Tbird).

https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-us/thunderbird/addon/minimize-on-close/

That might block however you are managing to accidentally exit Tbird.

I don't see an option like that, but there is an add-on that will do
that... Minimize on Close.

I really do need to read more carefully and not skip over things. I
don't know how I missed that. Time for bed I guess.

TB will not close if you are composing an email or a post, for instance.
It is not possible to accidentally lose what you are writing by closing TB.

Thus there is no need to ask if you are sure you want to close it.

If that happens you either use Windows or Linux. This is an OS-feature.
Mac does not stop die application on closing, it just closes the window.
Use the recommended add-on.

Really!
You've obviously never had a TB freeze mid action, when the only escape
solution is to Kill it from the Task Manager.

Is this version specific ?

Did you see this on version 2.0.0.23 or is it only 115.7 ?

A noteworthy behavior, is a Mork file, when a corruption
is detected in it, the Mork file is re-created by Thunderbird.
This is typically traceable to bad RAM. Since I got the new
computer, the incidence of this activity is zero. The computer
where this happened, was DDR2-based. The computer I'm on now
uses DDR4.

Thunderbird can be busy, if you are handling exceptionally large
boxes. It takes a while to load them, or to process them.

The opportunity for variant behavior is reduced, because TB
does not do a lot of "foreign HTML/JS". A regular browser like
Firefox, faces a lot more insults than Thunderbird does.

Another failure mode that is missing, is I haven't seen a "three pane yellow screen"
problem. That might have been due to corrupted RAM contents as well,
for all I know.

I can think of programs that are more freeze-worthy than you describe.
For example, I use GIMP 2.6.8 and there has some things I can do to it,
to raise the probability of a freeze.

Was your version of Thunderbird 32-bit, or 64-bit ?
Was the machine low on RAM ? Or did it have lots of RAM ?

I never had it because I use macOS or Linux.
BTW: TB is saving work every 3-5 minutes. Probably a feature for
Windows-user. *SCNR*

That's totally unrelated to the OP situation.
